Australia's first openly gay bobsled player and Sydney Convicts Rugby club representative Simon Dunn has died suddenly, shocking the country's sport, arts and LGBTIAQ+ communities.
Police and his agent Ruby Rose Management both confirmed the death of the 35-year-old, who broke new ground in both sports.
'About 10 am on Saturday, January 21, 2023, police were called to a unit on Crown Street, Surry Hills, after reports the body of a man had been found inside,' New South Wales police said in a statement.
Dunn travelled to Canada for work and found a new love in bobsledding, representing Australia in the North American Cup.
In 2021, Dunn attempted a comeback on the bobsled and announced his plans to represent Australia at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, only for a serious biceps injury to force him into early retirement.

“Footy” is Australian Rules Football. It more closely resembles Rugby than it does any other game called ‘football’.
