A research team led by the University of Houston has developed a vaccine targeting the dangerous synthetic opioid fentanyl that could block its ability to enter the brain, thus eliminating the drug’s “high.”
The breakthrough discovery could have major implications for the nation’s opioid epidemic by becoming a relapse prevention agent for people trying to quit using opioids. While research reveals Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) is treatable, an estimated 80% of those dependent on the drug suffer a relapse.
The findings, published in the journal Pharmaceutics, could not be timelier or more in demand: Over 150 people die every day from overdoses of synthetic opioids including fentanyl, which is 50 times stronger than heroin and 100 times stronger than morphine. Consumption of about 2 milligrams of fentanyl (the size of two grains of rice) is likely to be fatal depending on a person’s size.
In another positive finding, the vaccine did not cause any adverse side effects in the immunized rats involved in lab studies. The team plans to start manufacturing clinical-grade vaccine in the coming months with clinical trials in humans planned soon.
“The anti-fentanyl antibodies were specific to fentanyl and a fentanyl derivative and did not cross-react with other opioids, such as morphine. That means a vaccinated person would still be able to be treated for pain relief with other opioids,” said Haile.

I foresee a great increase in overdoses if they try this on addicts. The normal response of an addict is to increase the dose as the body becomes tolerate to the drug.
That’s a feature not a flaw.
Why bother. It is cleaning the gene pool. Give all the druggies an overdose. Problem solved in many areas.
“How about if you get a shot of narcan for an overdose, the EMT gives you the fentanyl ‘vaccine’ right afterward?”
how about NO.
I this is a super slippery slope. But I think if you ask the person when they recover if they want to be protected from fenty, but the fix will not preclude heroin highs the odds are that they will agree.
Always ask before using force as it gives better optics.
P.S. we are having a gun buyback please come and give us your guns. p.s. bring your assault weapon ammo too and we will donate it to the needy Ukrainians.
I had a colonoscopy earlier this year and they used fentanyl as a light sedative before the anesthetic. I was really surprised at that, but let them go ahead. Things turned out fine.
Maybe they are doing cocaine or heroin and don’t want to die from an accidental overdose of fentanyl that has been mixed in.
If the vaccine is only specific or it’s derivative, but not other opiates, the addict is just gonna use the opiates that get to the brain.....the addicts always find something else.
The drug distributors will make a more potent opiate derivative. False hope is a strong addiction also.

So the addict will switch to meth, coke, or heroin.
EFFECTIVE
PREVENTS OVERDOSE
HALTS ADDICTION
IN RARE CAUSES A SECOND NOSE TO GROW OUT OF YOUR FOREHEAD (But this is usually rare.)

Exactly. And fat and carb absorption blockers...still got overweight diabetics. Chantix for tobacco smoking didn’t work too well either.
I have another idea. Don’t take fentanyl.

So they take heroin or OxyContin instead. Etc…
Is it just me... or would a valid hypothesis of this will lead to more overdoses as people will simply try and take more?
You are absolutely correct. Already, addicts are given pills to block them from feeling high.
Sometimes they will use drugs while on those pills. Because they don’t feel the high, they can accidentally overdose.
Big pharma and their sycophants have forever made me extremely wary of any and all vaccines
You forget the real reason for these remedies. This is not about helping the junkies. It’s about getting more money out of the system under the guise of helping the junkies. Just like rehab clinics, it’s the cash flow they are looking for.
Well one fentanyl didn’t work, let’s try another and another and another.
