Budgeting for Thanksgiving dinner later this month? You might want to shop at Aldi. From prosciutto to potatoes to pumpkin pie, Aldi is offering all its traditional Thanksgiving foods at 2019 prices.
According to the grocery store, that’s up to a 30% discount on your Thanksgiving favorites.
The promotion runs now through Nov. 29, meaning you can get your discount food items for an early Friendsgiving and a traditional Thanksgiving dinner on Nov. 24. If you’ve got the pantry space, you can even head back to Aldi after Thanksgiving to stock up on Christmas dinner staples before the promotion ends.
The Rising Cost of Thanksgiving
Why is Aldi’s price drop such a big deal? With food prices at an all-time high, market research firm IRi estimates that your Thanksgiving meal will cost 13.5% more than it did in 2021, and 2021’s Thanksgiving prices were already up 14% from 2020.
This year, high inflation and continued market uncertainty mean families may be tightening their belts — right at a time when, depending on how much pumpkin pie we eat, we’re usually loosening them.
How to Get the Thanksgiving Discount at Aldi
Aldi’s press release didn’t list out every single food item that would qualify for the Thanksgiving discount, but some of the select dishes mentioned include brie cheese, prosciutto, cornbread stuffing, mini quiches, rolls, macarons, apple pie and wine.
Yep, Aldi’s even got discounted wine on the menu!
When you’re shopping in store or online, just look for the red Thanksgiving Price Rewind label to find the discounted food items.
Walmart, too? Bring on the Thanksgiving Price Wars
Not to be outdone, Walmart, which is the largest food retailer in the US, also announced a Thanksgiving price drop.
Walmart’s promotion is a little different from Aldi’s: While Aldi is promising 2019 prices, Walmart is advertising “This Year’s Thanksgiving at Last Year’s Meal Price.”
Still, that means major discounts on Thanksgiving hallmarks like ham and turkey. In fact, Walmart turkeys start at less than $1 per pound.
Walmart’s promotion lasts nearly a whole month longer than Aldi’s. It’s good through Dec. 26, so head to Walmart for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner.
What inflation? We don’t have no steenking inflation. Now that murder of infants is officially the law of the banana republic, we good.

2.49 for butter at aldi this week. it freezes very well.
Passed this on to the ‘peeps’ in the family.
I do the bulk of my shopping at Aldi’s - consistently lower than anyone else, including Wally World. There are a few items I cannot get there, since selection is limited, so forced to go to Wally’s .... it’s a short trip, in/out as fast as I can manage it.
I have two turkeys (17 lb +) from Aldi’s that I bought last week - $1.07/lb - saved me almost $20 total off the regular price for both. Limit 2 per customer. I went through everything in the cold case (one was almost empty already) looking for birds over 17 lbs - most were in the 16 lb range. These were Butterball Premium turkeys, not some off brand.
For Thanksgiving, I’ve been asked to make one of the birds (great, quick recipe if anyone is interested). My SIL bought a 12 pounder & a breast the other day - I believe the plan is to smoke the whole bird. My bird is the traditional recipe ‘backup’ bird. :-)
We just got a brand spankin’ new ALDI. Turkey was 30% off.
After last night be thankful for small things.
prosciutto?
There were Italians on the Mayflower?..............
Ours is new as well.................
I’m doing a Budget Challenge with some friends in another forum and I’m planning an Aldi Run this month, so I was glad to learn of this! :)
Before he retired from the Construction trades, Beau helped to build the newest Aldi in our area.
He sometimes tags along with me just to see, ‘how the old girl is holding up.’ LOL!
it’s on sale this week...and about 2 dollars less normal price
And they’ll quietly raise prices on other, less seasonal items to make up for their “loss”
We went to Aldi last week and bought our turkey; we thought it prudent to get it then because the price might get even higher. It was a 20 pounder at $1.59 lb.
The VERY NEXT DAY Aldi dropped the price to $1.09 lb.
GRRRRRRRR…..
I noticed the Soylent Green has a fresher flavor to it.
Bought a 15lb Butterball turkey at Aldi for a $1.00/lb. I guess that’s a good price for a BB.
Let’s be honest here. Walmart will raise the price of something from $5 to $6 then lower it to $5.50 and claim that they have lowered prices.
Yep. I just paid over $4 for a pound of butter. In Wisconsin!
Of course! But, if you’ve ever run or managed a business, the goal IS to make money.
You just gotta get them in the door. Most grocery chains have their ‘Loss Leaders’ each week. Again, the idea is to get you IN there so they can empty your pockets.
