Many of us have distinct and carefully examined or felt reasons for supporting one side or the other. “But I agree “It is the people who attack, smear, overexaggerate, either of these two sides.” who are ruining the opportunity for education, information, and discourse.
Seriously?? I mean, whether you agree with those explanations or not, they've been made ad nauseum pretty much everywhere. In short, Putin invaded Ukraine because he 1) resents and regrets the dissolution of the Soviet Union at the end of the Cold War, and 2) wants to reconstitute the Former Soviet Union's component parts into a larger "Great Russia". He views Ukraine as being a fake country with no independent history, and properly a part of Russia itself. He started this war to make that happen.
That general explanation for the war has been repeated inumerable times.
You have observed nothing of the kind. When you have to outright lie to make a point, you have no point.
Go find one article I have posted regarding this subject at all. Go on, go find it.

THIS is the basic fact of our existence in America in 2022. Everything in America that comes from our government or from the corporate world that is part of our neofascist system is a lie. That’s why Musk is creating such relief and hope…hope that it turns the tide.

Putin’s second major reason for attacking Ukraine is to steal back all the gas, oil, coal and other resources that were now Ukraine’s. It seems Russian Oligarchs do little to invest in growth of Russian people’s wellbeing. One third the population doesn’t even have adequate plumbing including toilets. I get the impression that while Ukraine may have Oligarchs, they do more investing in the growth of the country. Putin’s major resource and business is oil and gas. In 2012 Ukraine signed contracts with US oil companies to explore around Crimea and eastern Ukraine. This led Putin to grab Crimea in 2014 and make moves on east Ukraine. He did not want Ukraine to be supplying HIS European fuel market.
The third major reason is to follow Alexandr Dugin’s script to restore and grow Russia and die with the reputation of Peter the Great (see comment #140). Unfortunately, he may die with the reputation of Ivan the Terrible, or worse, just be forgotten!

Allegra really doesn’t care to or need to make Ukraine look bad because I would guess Allegra can see that those like you are already doing that with lies and propaganda.
The truth is usually how to gain respect. Most of the animosity here is that there are those that have no particular dog in this fight treated as though their objection to US involvement of any kind are treated as though they are anti US. Remember, this is not officially “our war” so we do not have to support it. Russians, Ukrainians, meh Ukraine is not a State or US territory. They aren’t an ally, nor are they in NATO.
Many believe this was all avoidable and could have been unnecessary if both sides would have worked for a peaceful solution.
Speaking for myself, I support the people of the United States. I do not support this current regime as it was installed rather than voted for. Everything they involve us in now is for a purpose that has nothing to do with democracy or freedom but more to do with turning the US over to a world government.

I may have confused you with Cathi who posted a number—both female short names. I knew I had seen your name posting comments, so looked in some posts and found the recent one linked below.

It made sense to be concerned about the caste called Untouchables before we knew about germs and infection. With modern knowledge, there is no excuse for it. And no one should be looked down on for doing an important job that many of us would not be willing to do even if it is essential for the health of society.
I am definitely right. I have never posted a Ukraine-Russia post on here.

My “style” is to point out excessive propaganda swarming and polluting this forum. I’ll keep doing it, too. We’re not just going to sit back and make it easy for the Soros crowd to take over FR’s news feed.

That link posted recently about Putin’s following a plan of some philosopher to make a greater Eurasia under Russian control sounds implausible, there would be nothing but a vast radioactive wasteland across much of that region if there was any military attempt to make it reality, and there are no political roads to success, one by one European countries are going to reject any form of Russian control. We may not like globalism but one thing it will not do is align itself with Moscow.
