Contains Bioengineered Ingredients

Second time in 24 hours I see this on store bought purchases.

Canned Peanuts Low Fat Yogurt

Should I be alarmed ? What the heck does this really mean ?

Nine times out of ten whenever you see “No High Fructose Corn Syrup” and you check the ingredients the first thing mentioned is “Corn Syrup”. It’s technically true but they’re still not using table sugar.

By hook or by crook, they will reduce our lifespans.

Most likely means a plant product with a gene that makes the plant resistant to pests.

The modified genes dissolve in your stomach acid just the same as the rest of what you eat (except for cellulose/indigestible fiber).

From the labeling all that tells you is the product has been genetically engineered.

The novel DNA the plant or animal carries won’t hurt you because your stomach acids will tear the DNA to pieces.

The controversy over genetically modified organisms from a food perspective has mainly centered around Roundup Ready crops. It’s not the DNA, it’s the Roundup.

At issue is whether the Roundup is carcinogenic and/or alters your gut microbiome (the bacteria in your gut, Roundup acts of the shikimic acid pathway of bacteria and plants).

If you are concerned you should look up Roundup and decide if you want to eat crops exposed to it.

Probably. By this point in human history pretty much everything is bio-engineered to some extend. At a minimum a whole lot of selective breeding went into it to get the “most desired” output.

If you grow a tail, wings, or your hands and feet web up then stop immediately.

Actually HFC became ubiquitous about 20 years ago. 5 years ago is when people started noticing and complaining. And pretty much anything that has any sweetness in it has HFC, except the ones that say they don’t. So no, it’s nowhere near gone from shelves.

we’ve been bioengineering forever but we’ve always done it naturally...for many different reasons...bugs, weather, diseases. But now we’re into manipulating the genes.

Nothing to be concerned about as it’s just the science.

“Back five years ago all the manuf started saving $$$ with High Fructose Cornsyrup. It took the public to rebel and now its virtually gone from the shelves. Quite obvious from all the products now claiming β€œNo high frustose...””

It started long before that due to sugar import tariffs. And it is not virtually gone.

Most all of the Halloween candy is going to contain bioengineered ingredients, M&Ms, etc, etc.

That’s the one thing “Organic” does guarantee...no bioengineered ingredients, thanks to Sonny Perdue.

But Organic can have its own risks, especially with leafy vegetables that don’t get washed very well or cooked and used in salads...they use natural fertilizers, like solid waste from humans. Potentially carries some very dangerous diseases. They say they’re good about getting the composts up to 160 degrees, but some studies have found the dangerous bacteria in grocery store’s on the organic vegetables.

Would picking a specific bull to mate with a specific cow be considered bio-engineering?? In my mind it would, in its own primitive way. We have been bio-engineering food for a long time . . . we just didn’t give it a scary name. IMHO

Is “bioengineered” possibly a marketing approach to avoid GMO stigma?
