Their mother was also injured in the attack north of Memphis around 3:30 p.m., according to the sheriff’s office.
The children who were attacked, a 2-year-old girl, and a 5-month-old boy, were pronounced dead at the scene, it said.
The sheriff’s office said Thursday that the condition of the children’s mother has been upgraded, and that she is now stable. Officials earlier described her as being in critical condition.
The two pit bulls responsible were euthanized Thursday by Memphis Animal Services, the sheriff’s office tweeted.

As German Shepherds, Dalmatians, Dobermans, Rottweilers, and others before them.
I’ve owned every one of these except Dalmatian and never had a problem.
Exceedingly unusual for the dog to be vicious if not abused or ill.
My latest PB died on me after only fourteen years, I just cannot bear to have to bury another dog so have turned down several offers of another PB ONLY for that reason.
I recall a Freeper some years ago who’s PB saved him from a bear attack, be sure to tell him how evil all PB’s are.

As they all say after their kids have been mauled, they were such nice dogs, I don't understand.
Pit Bulls can have a sudden Jihad syndrome. The ones you raise at home can turn on you. Get a cat or chihuahua instead.
When ongoing expenses such as Life Insurance Premiums or Homeowner’s Liability Insurance begin to be effected by owning certain dog breeds, the purchase of these animals will likely slow down.
Some Pit Bull owners are taken in because as puppies, these dogs can be very affectionate. I helped take care of one while a friend of mine was out of town.
Pits are a different type of animal compared to most other dog breeds. Even as puppies, many are highly intelligent. It’s almost offputting, how much these pups will have already figured out about patterns of human behavior after just a few months of living around people.
I have heard that Huskies and Belgian Malois are that way too.
Comparing those dogs to pit bulls is, well, there is no comparison. The Rottweilers are close but not near as dangerous as the pit bull.
Too many stories of pit bulls that went off like a time bomb, just as happened in this situation.
The sad part is some people hang onto their fantasies until they turn into a nightmare’s... at some innocent child’s expense.
