A new study from the Pentagon shows that 77% of young Americans would not qualify for military service without a waiver due to being overweight, using drugs or having mental and physical health problems.
A slide detailing the findings from the Pentagon's 2020 Qualified Military Available Study shared with Military.com shows a 6% increase from the latest 2017 Department of Defense research that showed 71% of Americans would be ineligible for service.
"When considering youth disqualified for one reason alone, the most prevalent disqualification rates are overweight (11%), drug and alcohol abuse (8%), and medical/physical health (7%)," the study, which examined Americans between the ages of 17 and 24, read. The study was conducted by the Pentagon's office of personnel and readiness.

When I voluntarily joined back in 80, I came in 16 pounds overweight. I lost that 16 pounds very quickly and another 20 after that. It was good to have a motivational TI assist me in developing my running skills.
THE MOTIVATION PLATOON. My recollection is the overweight went to a physical fitness platoon prior to beginning training.

I wonder if there was a lot of difference between a teen of the 1970s being 20 pounds overweight but still being one of the boys riding bikes, playing ball, chasing, climbing, and running, as was normal then, versus a couch sitting, fat teen of today who doesn’t even own a bike, or climb trees, or play sandlot football.
I can hear the cries of “Fascism!” already.

If the govermant tells you ‘A’ then suspect ‘A’ is a lie and is hidding the real reason ‘B’. The US government lies all the time and in all cases.
Over time, the school had to buy larger chairs and desks because the students were getting too large to fit in standard sizes. In my estimation , about 30% of the students were not just overweight, they were morbidly obese. The chair sizes went up immediately following the decision to eliminate mandatory PE classes.
Drug abuse was rampant particularly marijuana. Eventually it became legalized in Arizona and in my estimation, 95% of the students used it daily and even on campus.
The students in general were addicted to their cell phones. We were instructed to take the cell phones from the kids when we caught them using them in class. The student's responses to the confiscation was astounding, crying, angry threats and complete catatonic like shutdown. This was even knowing that they would get their phones back at the end of class.
That being said, a bigger reason is that people just aren't joining. That kid who was a wrestler in High School, knows about discipline and work ethic-he isn't joining the woke military.
Navy boot camp drill instructor in the late 70’s. 99% or overweight recruits made weight and passed the pt tests after a couple weeks of proper diet, no junk food and regular exercise. The weight issues can be solved quickly but the weight standards are an issue. I had a co worker chief who passed every pt test. His neck to waist measurement was not proper so he was ultimately separated due to being overweight. Excellent leader and physically fit didn’t matter. The “standards” should be looked at with more an eye on fitness rather than BMI.
Absolutely not. Forcing kids to join the woke military is almost akin to child abuse.

RECRUITING IS A PROBLEM it not just woke it’s the fat feral lazy and stoned they have no self respect no pride for America or anything else every day is a play day period.
You may be right, but it was the very first co-ed training platoon, and I think they were experimenting with the females to see how we would do.
We did just fine. :)
