Gas Furnaces Becoming Illegal?
Tell Me Best ^ | Sept 26, 2022 | Charlene Badasie

In its efforts to minimize ozone pollution, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) voted to phase out gas furnaces and water heaters. Beginning in 2030, homes will be required to install zero-emissions alternatives, like electric heaters as the sale of fossil-fuelled appliances will be banned. The move is designed to meet EPA regulations limiting emissions in the atmosphere to 70 parts per billion, but much of the Golden State still exceeds that limit.

Speaking to NPR about the ban on gas furnaces, CARB Chair Liane Randolph said, "We need to take every action we can to deliver on our commitments to protect public health from the adverse impacts of air pollution. With the strategy, we can do just that." She added that while this strategy will clean the air for Californians, it will also lead to reduced emissions in the many low-income and disadvantaged communities that experience greater levels of persistent air pollution.

The vote was met with public comments which included some opposition. Retired Engineer Michael Kapolnek said reduced emissions don’t justify the cost to homeowners forced into expensive upgrades. But groups like the American Lung Association and the Sierra Club supported the ban on gas furnaces. Senior Policy Advocate at Sierra Club California, Daniel Barad said the move will reduce the building sector’s carbon footprint and improve public health.

According to a report from policy research group SPUR, fossil-fuelled appliances like gas furnaces in California homes and buildings generate four times as much lung-damaging nitrogen oxide as the state’s gas-powered plants. "To meet federal air quality standards that protect the health, air quality regulators must phase out the sale of gas appliances and implement equity-centered implementation plans for transitioning homes to electric alternatives," the report says.

California continues to go wacko. Their power grid cannot handle what they have now and they continue to eliminate other sources.

When I buy a house I want gas heat and cooking. Another reason to avoid the land of fruits and nuts.

This is why they're called "progressives", taking us far into the future where everything is illegal except rocks, sticks, and womanpower.

I personally do not like gas stoves or gas heating. I lost a good friend from a home gas leak. Her husband came very close to dying also. Very scary. But...in CA they are trying to do too much in too short of time. You can’t go all green on your power grid and then demand everyone go electric on everything like cars, trucks, appliances, heat, air. People are going to be very unhappy in a couple years.

There’s the REAL reason for the change... yet another reward for the gibs-me-dats, yet another attack on Whites.

People get electrocuted in their homes as well.

You should be very, very, very afraid because you appear to be very, very, very good at it.

Here in Missouri were we have frequent outages you have to have gas and or gennys. The problem is things grow too fast here and virtually impossible to stop outages The electric company works hard and does a good job overall but can’t stop some. The ice storm in 07 left the entire area out for 11 days. People who had all electric ended up with serious damage including frozen water lines.
china produces 90% of world pollution. Why don’t they go after china instead of destroying so much here?

EPA and CARB are out-of-control agencies, which need to be taken down. They have way too much power and no accountability.

The electrical grid already lacks the load capacity to run everything plugged into it. So of course, California politicians being detached from the physics of reality want *more* load on the electrical grid.

It is totally in fitting with their absurd belief that demand will somehow magically create supply. If that was true, every starving socialist utopia would be filled with goods as there is certainly “demand” in those countries.

Leftists constantly disparage supply side economics, but without a supply of something physical to sell, demand for goods is meaningless to generating economic activity. And leftist governments are very good about destroying incentives to create goods.

So California thinks that somehow MAJICALY the Earth’s Atmosphere STOPS at the state line. ALL the Ozone, Smoke, Particulates, etc. from CHINA and INDIA don’t impact their own precious air pollution levels. MORONS.

Hope their power grid literally MELTS due to OVERLOAD. Oops, they can’t use candles from CHINA since they generate soot that has been found to have lead in it.

“china produces 90% of world pollution. Why don’t they go after china instead of destroying so much here?”

~~~
Ding ding ding
We have a winner.
They don’t go after China for two reasons. First, they don’t actually believe CO2 causes warming. Second, they can’t do jack about China, but still, you’d think there’d at least be cursory and symbolic protests of China’s pollution if that’s what they really cared about. Not a peep.
BTW How much will inevitable California’s collapse impact the saner parts of the US?
If it is negligible..I say good riddance.
Electric heaters & furnaces when they cannot even support the current demand?
“Citizen, we are experiencing a rolling black out to to heavy winter demand - you will only be without power for the next few days ... do not attempt to use your furnace or water heater or you will be heavily fined.”
I love my induction cooktop but I also have a propane grill. Most pro chefs use both.
California is crazy, even energy efficient induction uses electricity and I have a dedicated 40 amp curcuit breaker for mine. What are people going to cook on when the grid had those “planned” outages?
