I know this has probably been going on a long time. Bu I have a problem with the concept. And everyone should.
I just ordered $1000 worth of tires. The shipper sent them free shipping. They use FedEx as contracted.
Long story short, after two weeks of chasing hese down o make sure they actually and finally get to me something happened that bothered me greatly.
The shipper sent them as "signature required". Bu when they finally showed up I asked the delivery guy if he needed a signature. He told me that no he did not because he already applied "signature on file".
I asked him... How do you know it is at the right address and the right person? He told me "doesn't matter, I signed for you and you received them".
But how do you know I am being honest about who I am?
"Doesn't matter, they were delivered".
Personally I am going to make sure they remove my signature from "on file". If they had delivered these to a wrong address and person I would have been out $1000 bucks and would have had to fight with possibly even a lawsuit to get justification.
I strongly suggest addressing this "on file" issue with any and all delivery services you use. No... unless I sign for each and every delivery then it didn't happen.
What a coincidence.
I just received a phone call (I assumed a scam) saying I had received a delivery that required a signature and there they had contacted me twice trying to get a signature.
I did have a signature required delivery a few weeks ago.
You think that’s bad, try the postal package system.
Sounds like the Fedex guy took it upon himself to check the signature on file box so he would not have to lug the tires around. I would have asked to see the signature and I would report it to his boss.
You still have to sign for drugs.
“I would have asked to see the signature and I would report it to his boss.”
Have you tried to call FedEx lately and get any customer service? Even talk to a human? Let anyone who has a clue how their own system works when you do talk to a human?
I had items delivered by UPS to a friends house and it satated signature required. The items were delivered whil no one was home.
“You still have to sign for drugs.”
Which depending on driver, can just be tossed over a fence and be signed for with “Signature on file”.
In the meantime your dog ate them...
He knocked on my door and asked for signature.
“I had items delivered by UPS to a friends house and it satated signature required. The items were delivered whil no one was home.”
Because of “signature on file”. Call them... Make it clear you do not want your signature on file. If you are not there to sign then try again the next day.
If the delivery person can sign for you without ever handing you the package, why require the signature?
(If you should happen to report to a shipper that you never received the Expensive Item you ordered, let FedEx and the shipper settle it.)
The ground dummies (contractors) can’t find my house despite it being on a block long street and having GPS. And believe me, if they misdeliver a package, once it’s marked as “delivered”, you’re screwed as far as getting through to FedEx system. All they know is “delivered” and “maybe it was stolen”. I finally punched thru their nightmare phone system to report fraud or something and told the person I wasn’t getting off the line til they helped me, regardless of the reason. They did - there’s a difference between “tracking” and “tracing” and finally someone talked to the delivery person who of course couldn’t remember anything.
Turned out they delivered to a house that was vacant and some contractor put the package inside so it woudln’t get stolen, not realizing it was misdelivered. After the item was replaced by the seller, a realtor brought it to me, a week later.
You cannot get a live person to talk to at Fedex. My husband had a package that never arrived although it was “tracked” as delivered. The issue was never resolved and we were out the money.
With Tirebuyer.com the recipient must be registered with their system before delivery. Then fedex just drops them there. Worked fine for me. Good luck.
That is how it supposed to be. But what I found is that it depends on the driver. They give them far too much personal Discretion. And Sig on file facilitates this.
During my chase to hunt down where these tires went and why I had not received them yet. I found that it was because the driver just didn’t want to go out of his way that far for one delivery.
So I finally asked them... “So the drivers now dictate the whole company policy from their trucks?”. That is when hey actually found hem and made a real effort to get them to me.
Then came the Sig on file concept question.
In May I had a tire delivery show status of delivered...no tires in sight. Shipper immediately sent another shipment which finally arrived 3 days past the new promised delivery date. FedEx has screwed up every shipment to me this year.
Lots of trouble stories about FedEx lately.
Sounds like they have truly gone bad.
Used to be the gold standard.
The collapse of the American economy, and indeed western civilization, continues apace.
“You still have to sign for drugs.!”
Not in Californicator land. We get our RX drugs delivered by regular US mail into our unlocked mailbox.
They are left in our mailbox with zero signatures.

Amazon with a years long same account. Free shipping on 350 pounds of product. FedEx as THEIR choice for delivery.
(Yes I know, the evil Amazon... But even walmart wanted $50 more for each tire six in total. In this economy I just did not have the extra $300 to blow right now.)
