Will the replacement vehicle be electric?

Added to list, not intended to be complete. No mention of fire for sixth link, correction welcome.

The pioneering work for EVs needs to be done imo.

On the other hand, EV buyers need to be warned about possible battery fires before purchase and possibly higher insurance premiums imo.

Insights welcome.

Makes sense.
They’re trying for the least aero drag, so the cars sit low.
Also Teslas have had a lot of problems with cast aluminum suspension links failing and they drag bottom.

Good question.
If these fires are as problematic as it appears, the insurance on them will skyrocket.

Great. Cars are designed to ride low to the ground for aerodynamic reasons. The battery, being heavy, is mountrd low and thus vulnerable to road damage. Brilliant. Simply brilliant.

When you by a Jaguar it’s best to buy 2 so you have something to drive while it’s in the shop.

LOL... that is so true. We had a "73 and also a "74 E type. One of them was always getting worked on.

They don’t cover ‘Acts of God’..............This was a Mercy Killing......................

Reason number 90005845 to not buy an EV.

Most brands of cars these days have aluminum suspension links.
It’s just that Tesla doesn’t have good quality practices.

Of all things my 2015 Ford Fusion Energi (electric) has the battery mounted at a height about equal to where the rear axle would have been if it was a rear wheel drive gas car.

If I damage THAT battery, something REALLY bad has happened.

Also, replacing that battery would be about $5800 right now.

Kind of STUPID to park an EV in one’s garage. Very lucky he got it out.

The owner of the burning vehicle was incredibly fortunate in many ways. He could have missed the popping sounds while in the shower, could have been rocking and jamming to Ozzie Osborne, or could have been an old geezer who didn’t change his hearing aid batteries. Very fortunate.

“Automatic transmission? Come on.”

Well, if they want to, they could put a ‘stick’ and fake clutch in it and then program the computer to require the driver to ‘shift’ to be able drive the car.

Well, what the hell, if they’re willing to drive an EV in the first place, they’d probably also get fooled by a fake manual transmission.

The car was smoking and making popping noises in the garage. The owner drove it out to the street in that condition. I wonder if that saved his house.

“Somehow the owners are running over curbs, debris, speed bumps, dunno ... and having compromised the ‘cage’ protecting the batteries, if the physical batteries inside are damaged, the electrolyte of the batteries can readily ignite when exposed to air and heat-of-charging.”

Interesting post—if the under-carriage is low to the ground that would certainly increase the risk.
