I am traveling to So. Africa in the fall and will be spending time in the Cape Town area. Looking for recomendations
But it's safer than Chicago.
Check with your life insurance agent to se if your policy is up to date and payable if you ‘expire’ overseas.
“Exercise increased caution in South Africa due to crime and civil unrest.
“Country Summary: Violent crime, such as armed robbery, rape, carjacking, mugging, and “smash-and-grab” attacks on vehicles, is common. There is a higher risk of violent crime in the central business districts of major cities after dark.”
Hopefully it is ABSOLUTELY necessary and you will not bring anyone else in your family.
Hire quality Bodyguards and be very careful.
Godspeed.
They have their ultimate society there, the one they want to build here. Their favored feral citizens can assault or kill anyone they want, rape any woman they see, and steal as much as they desire. It’s multicultural paradise. There are a lot easier ways to commit suicide than going there.
If you go up to the game viewing areas, I had great luck at the Inyati Preserve. I saw four out of the five “BIG FIVE”, Elephant, Rhino, Cape Buffalo, and Lion. I missed out on Leopard. But the other more common animals were great to view: Kudu, Impala, Wildebeast, Warthog, giraffe, zebra, and Baboon. I caught sight of a relatively rarely spotted (for that area) five-foot-long monitor lizard. Hearing a lion roar at night and not seeing it (for a while) was one of my best memories. I also visited Santa Lucia Estuary to view Hippos, Crocs, and birdlife.
If you do Instagram, take a scroll through the account of SerenaCrawford and SerenaCrawfordTravel. She is a world traveler, who previously lived in Cape Town, and now has a beach house at Plettenberg Bay. She has done many safaris throughout Africa, and is a very interesting follow for all things South Africa.
Contact this guy. South African ex-pat living in Texas for the last twenty years or so.
Ship your M-4 ahead of you.
Do you have a death wish? I would never, ever willingly go to the crime infested shithole known as South Africa.
Why...????
Of all the place you could go
Seems like a visit to Chicago at night, alone, on foot, looking lost and helpless, would be a cheaper dangerous adventure.
bring back apartheid
You can read about this Vietnamese guy’s experience in Cape Town:

See this list of FR members from South Africa. You could message them all with a single query:

Everyone I know who has gone to S.A. has stories of being mugged and robbed. If you call the police, they will take anything the robbers left behind. I know dozens of people who were ordered and paid by their families to leave S.A. and not come back.
“Cape Town”
I’m just guessing, but I’d avoid South African cities.
The natural beauty of the country is why most Americans would want to visit.
I suspect the DK travel guide to South Africa would be quite helpful.
I recommend you don’t go.
The only thing I can tell you is .375 is minimum for dangerous game, a ,30/06 will do for everything else.
Safari agents take you from jberg directly to the lodge. Visiting with local villagers is cool. Bring extra travel items, leave them either trackers and villagers. Fly home with much less luggage than you brought. Everything else is off limits.
If you want to see jberg, etc the agent washes his hands of you.
