Blame it on lingering effects of the pandemic, resentment over the lockout or economic fears.
Major League Baseball is struggling to fill the stands at pre-COVID levels as the sport heads into the last 2½ months of its first season since 2019 without capacity restrictions.
MLB reached the All-Star break with an average attendance of 26,409. That represents a drop of 5.4% from the All-Star break of 2019 — which was 10 days earlier than this year.
League officials remain encouraged and point to the recovery. […]
… Victor Matheson, a Holy Cross economics professor who specializes in sports economics […] said MLB relies more than other professional sports leagues on out-of-town fans. That makes MLB particularly vulnerable to issues that could curtail tourism. …

“mlb went woke and they died in their woke”
Yes, when the kung-flu-China-virus-pandemic began we had the Cleveland Indians.
When it was over, they were the Guardians.
I will NEVER attend a Guardians game.
It’s really nauseous. The constant propaganda of evil and in a sport where most people(like me) that want to get away from the lectures and the problems and just want to watch some ball.
Baseball and football was my escapism, just fun, watching or listening. I don’t want lectures and all the woke ads. Grrrr
I’m still on strike since 1994.
The Dodgers are doing very well with attendance. They’ve have had only one game that drew less than 41000 and that drew 35000.
The Dodger fans add 5000 to 10000 fans whenever they go on the road. When they play in San Diego, Anaheim, or Phoenix the Dodger fans outnumber their fans.
My late mother and her brother had their names done similarly in front of the Globe theatre in London. She loved Shakespeare and England.
Gone are the days where a pitcher can go 94-46, with a career 2.28 ERA, hit 714 Homers, and not be juiced up, unless you count hot dogs and beer, like Babe Ruth.
Another fallout from covid is there is no longer any physically printed ticket. You have to have a smartphone and electronically pay and receive tix now. Don’t have a smartphone that can download the MLB app...you ain’t going.
The other thing I’d point out is that the whole experience of watching a major sports event in many cities is a hassle. A friend of mine was recently offered two free tickets — with a combined face value over $400 — to see his favorite MLB team. He couldn’t be bothered.
When Fenway Park put the silly virtue signaling “BLM matters” sign up by the Mass Pike, I was all done with MLB baseball for good. Even if I’m offered free tickets, I won’t go.
“It’s way expensive to the point of ridiculousness. Then they wear LGBT colors and Spanish names on their jerseys. I still follow it some, but it’s not that great.”
I follow it distractedly for all of those reasons. If only because it beats watching Chinese reality TV with the wife!
Like the woman says in the PSA about marriage.....
“What sport would you choose to describe your marriage?”
(Or some such words).
A laughing woman says, “Baseball. It lasts a long time and not a lot happens.”
Stopped going when they put up metal detectors - they don’t care about you once you leave the ballpark. You’re on your own. I had a small flashlight on me, and was told I would not be able to bring it in next time.
There was no next time.

Horay!
MLB teams are located in or near major downtown centers inside big cities. Those same big cities refuse to prosecute/inprison monsters who roam their streets. You come out of a game at 10 PM and have to run the gauntlet getting to your vehicle UNARMED.
No thanks.

Good Lord, that is disgusting.
I hate four hour games. The fact that Edgar Martinez a career DH is in the Hall of Fame yet Curt Shilling is not makes the Hall of Fame a joke.
I don’t think it helps much that the best players are from Venezuela, Cuba and the Dominican Republic.
Yea, they took the ASG from Atlanta and gave it wherever the hell it was played, I didn’t watch so I don’t know, because Georgia, err I should say metro Atlanta stole the election. The rest of the state are conservative folks, farmers, workers in factories, etc. Metro Atlanta are all those liberals who immigrated to Atlanta to get away from the stink the Dimocrats created in their old states and brought it with them and now are polluting. I said way last year or the year before that GA would go Dim in the next election and they did. I just felt it in my bones with what I was hearing. Thankfully, Alabama remains the MOST conservative state in the union, and it is between us and Mississippi as to whom is the most Christian state. Last I saw, Bama was. Hope we are staying #1 in that area.
They took the All Star Game from Atlanta because Georgia passed a voter reform law. They moved the game to Denver. Then the Braves won it all to put a pie in their faces.
