Blame it on lingering effects of the pandemic, resentment over the lockout or economic fears.
Major League Baseball is struggling to fill the stands at pre-COVID levels as the sport heads into the last 2½ months of its first season since 2019 without capacity restrictions.
MLB reached the All-Star break with an average attendance of 26,409. That represents a drop of 5.4% from the All-Star break of 2019 — which was 10 days earlier than this year.
League officials remain encouraged and point to the recovery. […]
… Victor Matheson, a Holy Cross economics professor who specializes in sports economics […] said MLB relies more than other professional sports leagues on out-of-town fans. That makes MLB particularly vulnerable to issues that could curtail tourism. …

I respect that but must admit that I love it. It doesn’t make a difference to AL teams but it’s great for casual viewing to not have that automatic out everytime the 9th batter comes to the plate.
I would feel different if Pitchers put in any time trying to learn to hit.
Are you a fan of a National League team?
I am thinking they could try having every game be gay, black, pedophile day. Their logical next step.
They they can get a bunch of queers and ghetto negros to go to their games, MLB is dead to me.
They don’t like their market. They’re trying to market to young purple hairs when they should be concerned with the gray hairs
hubby won’t watch the Guardians, so there’s that.
I got him a Long Live the Tribe tee shirt.
Yet attendance is down.
I think that is reflected in the television number a little more than the attendance figures... And it is an issue for them.
This is however is most likely due on the fact that everybody is poor since we all have to pay 10% more to live under Bidenflation. Disposal income is at an all time low.
My kids got me tickets for NY/Bos last weekend so I went and it was a nice day. Not nice enough to justify me taking money out of my budget to purchase tickets. That is where I think they are really hurt financially.
A rising tide lifts all boats.
I used to be a huge baseball fan, since I was about 10 yo. No longer watch. Period. Wokeness is my overriding factor. Nothing else comes close.
They are going to need to get a few more very woke trans players in pom poms.
That should do the trick.
Chuckle!
I don’t care about the cost of tickets and food. I change the channel when MLB or MFL is on the news.
Uggh. The Tampa Bay Gays.
I agree. The 10th inning ghost runner did it for me. Plus, baseball was always a free broadcast for decades, and watching a game on tv stimulated interest in going down to the ball park a few times. Now it is all driven by money and broadcasters who don’t know the hometowns and don’t know the fans. Money guys have killed pro ball and they have no idea how to revive it because they don’t give a sh*t about the game.
No they don't.
How did the NBA ratings do a coupla years ago with LeBron James in the finals when they went totally woke?
Their ratings collapsed!
Blame it on the game sucking. It’s all strike outs and home runs. It’s boring.
Inter-league play, extending the season into November and unlistenable rock music replacing the organ are some of my pet peeves.
Easy…require more vaxx, more masks, and become more woke…plus grand prize giveaway of free gender altering surgery at every game…
Changing the Indians name is criminal. And the TV games run ads where mothers talk to crying scientists about “climate change.” They show them over and over.
Add to what you just posted the constant lectures on social and political issues coming from the announcers, analysts, and other clowns who pretend to know the game and it’s no wonder that all three big sports (baseball, football, basketball) are dead to me.
The athletes from 50 years ago were better, more fun to watch, and didn’t have all the baggage that these idiots today have.
I’m done with sports until the Millennium at least.
