Infectious Disease ping - UK - Two additional cases of viral “Monkeypox”, risk remains low to the general public
Photos of the infection and explanation of the disease are available at the news website.
" Monkeypox is a rare viral infection which kills up to one in ten of those infected but does not spread easily between people.(Emphasis mine)
Initial symptoms of monkeypox include fever, headache, muscle aches, backache, swollen lymph nodes, chills and exhaustion.
In 2003, the disease was detected in the US when an outbreak occurred following the importation of rodents from Africa."

"The case announced earlier this month was a person with a recent travel history from Nigeria, which is where they were believed to have contracted the infection,
before travelling to the UK.
Dr Colin Brown, director of clinical and emerging infections at the UKHSA, said:
'We have confirmed two new monkeypox cases in England that are not linked to the case announced on May 7."
Good news: they were able get the monkey pox patients off the ventilator, but they can’t get them off the chandelier
Monkeypox ping!
Gotta stop having sex with monkeys before its too late
Well...at least it isnt the sweating sickness.
As far as I know, they havent figured that one out yet completely.
Isnt this some kind of movie with Dustin Hoffman?
Just looked at the photos. They forgot to mention the main symptom, the pustules.
Yes, the virus causes pustules,
the pustules burst, releasing their viral fluids
and thus causing a scab.
The infected person on 5/7 is believed to have contracted the virus by handling infected cloth.
The new infections appear to have no known correlation to the 5/7 victim.
Since the first infection in the US was caused by imported rodents, perhaps this explains this recent spread in the UK ?
It’s always something.
Monkey pox should be spanked.
So we had 1 case last week. This week we have 2 new cases. Next week 4, then 8 then 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024.... In 32 weeks, it will be up to 4 billion new cases a week.
I’m sure they will get it under control though.
In reading the article listed, the consistent location of the trail of the infection is coming from Nigeria.

The old smallpox vaccine us boomers received as kids was designed from the monkeypox virus, so we’re good. I would advise the rest of you not to have sex with monkeys.
You’re gonna go blind.
...and an insatiable appetite for bananas
Monkeypox is easily prevented using the same vaccines used to prevent Smallpox. Unfortunately access Smallpox vaccine is very tightly controlled due to fears that having large numbers of people immune to Smallpox in a country would allow that country to use it as a biological weapon against other countries. Currently in the US only the military and high government officials are vaccinated against Smallpox. People traveling to countries where Monkeypox should be able to get Smallpox vaccinations before traveling. Likewise countries with Monkeypox outbreaks should have much more availability of Smallpox vaccines.
No! The Smallpox vaccines were derived from Cowpox virus Vaccinia. As all Orthopox viruses are DNA viruses, they are much more stable than RNA viruses. The Smallpox vaccines work very well against Monkeypox too. In fact the same Smallpox vaccine is also use vaccinate animals against various Orthopox viruses.
Oops, you are correct, I must have confused the 2. But like you say, the various pox viruses seem to have cross reactivity when it comes to vaccines, so I’m not worried.
