Need Manly Information. A family member is selling his big diesel truck and thinking of purchasing a Raptor. Two people disparaged the Raptor and said it was a "kids truck". Manly Freepers?

Just know that the turboed engine is going to wear out and vomit itself long before any normally aspirated V-8 or any Diesel. Turbos are the new planned obsolescence.

I don’t understand anyone getting rid of a diesel truck and buying something that runs on gasoline. When the economy crashes, which do you think will be available? Gasoline or diesel? Hint: semi tractors and trains, which carry ALL food, use diesel... Oh, well, some people just have normalcy bias, and think this whole gravy train will just keep ‘a rollin’, forever...

Things may have changed over the last couple of years but the knock on the ecoboost’s was the intercooler was too small and performance would suffer due to turbocharger heatsoak. If I was buying one I would budget $1500.00 for a bigger intercooler and installation.

Doesn't the refining process make percentages of both products from crude oil? Are you suggesting they will produce diesel but do something else with the gasoline fraction?

This is what Im sayin.

I know a sweet lil thang that used to drive a F-350 Super Duty 3 blocks every day to work & back. Damn cute shimmying up into it and washing it on weekends, never got stuck on snow days, always honked and waved. It took 4 year but she ruint that truck & couldnt afford to fix it but I think she sure showed him in the dee-vorce

Uh... 400+ HP isn’t a “kids truck.” That’s a wee bit more than my Mustang GT, so I suppose I’m driving a “kids muscle car.”

Besides, if someone’s making decisions based on what other folks think they’re not living their own life.

Never was a fan of turbo motors. Highly stressed. More shit to break and expensive to repair. No replacement for displacement.

Or, you could try pulling a 32-ft Heartland with your Kia.

This was a criticism of the new vehicle choice.

Actually, Ford went to quite a lot of trouble to test the EcoBoost turbo motor in the Raptor. It will actually last longer than the conventional V8 option in the F-150. They even took a well used one to race at Baja prior to release and it held up just fine. In fact, it finished and placed higher than many V8 trucks that completed the race or DNF’d.

Also, how do you explain ‘turbo engines wear out and die fast’ when every diesel engine sold here for the past couple decades is a turbo and they last just as long as their non-turbo predecessors?

Sorry, turbo = inherently shortlived is no longer true and hasn’t been for a while. Now, if you buy a GM turbo motor it won’t live too long, but that’s a GM problem, not a turbo motor problem.

The failure here is thinking that manliness comes from a vehicle.
