Let the Free Republic site create the Title, Author, Date, and Source, given the Source URL

I'd like the ability to post by entering only the Source URL, clicking a button and having software populate the entries of Title, Author, Date Published, and Source. The user would still supply Topics and Keywords (if any). This would be optional -- the user could still fill out the fields as is done now.
It's good to have diversity of sites. Free Republic is text-heavy, which makes it easy and fast to scan many posts. But I do think the suggested feature would make it easier to use, like Reddit, where if you enter a URL, it generates a title.
TOPICS: Focus Software
KEYWORDS: diy; learnhowtopost; vanity; whiner

After what Photobucket did to it’s users (holding photo’s hostage) I never again allowed that to happen.
I bought my own web space from Hostgator. I dump my photos there, and they are under my control. I also have my own URL. So for $100/year plus $20 or so for the URL name I do my own third party hosting.

As a domain owner and developer I’m not sure you understand how much work this would be to implement. And there is always the problem with the URL not accurately representing the true title that software cannot fix.
The current format is not that much effort... Everyone wants electric windows and cars that do all the thinking and effort for them... One extra copy and paste isn’t really backbreaking effort.

Same here. Leave it the way it is.

You might as well be wishing for parking assist on a K car.
Yup, though FR is better than a K-Car. No Catalytic Converter, no tracking/recording devices, minimal restraints. You just have to deal with carburetor and points yourself.

the survival rate of people who held their breath waiting for programming updates to this site is zero

Well done... I did the same over ten years ago. Got unlimited premium for the same price. I can add as many subdomain sites as I like, such as file sharing/storage sites and have my own secure email server to boot.
I kept getting “If you don’t like it go make your own”. So I did... lol :)

No!
But you’re much easier to get along with, so I can see why you’d get yours first.

I believe the software is older than 20. I remember clearly browsing FR in the early 90’s

“Amen. also, more to fix and more expensive if all of these bells and whistles don’t work. “
Yes, less complications means less to break. I don’t mind hand crank windows at all, in fact I prefer them.

I second that emotion. It’s a bit of a pain posting an article in FR.
