Experts are keeping a wary eye on yet another COVID-19 variant, this one with 46 mutations.
It was detected in France and showed up in a traveler who recently arrived from a three-day stay in Cameroon, French researchers said in a pre-print study published on medRxiv, which means it has not yet been peer-reviewed.
While researchers were monitoring the strain to ascertain how infectious it is or whether it poses a danger, experts emphasized that its discovery alone was not cause for alarm. Moreover, it was noted even before omicron took over the world stage and “has been on our radar,” WHO incident manager on COVID Abdi Mahamud said at a press briefing in Geneva on Tuesday, according to Bloomberg. “That virus had a lot of chances to pick up.”
So far, indications are that it hasn’t. But it did manage to infect 12 people in Marseille, in southeastern France.
The 46 mutations had not been detected in other countries, The Independent noted.
The person infected with the B.1.640.2 variant, dubbed IHU after being discovered by scientists at the IHU Mediterranee Infection, was fully vaccinated and had just returned from a three-day trip to Cameroon when they tested positive, the researchers said.

We all gonna die!
I read somewhere that this year’s flu vaccine is completely ineffective against the current influenza strains. I’ll try to find a link.
What laboratory or labs did the specific testing needed to identify any variant at all?
Yet it is NOT to early to start spreading fear... got it...
Aw Jeez, not this again.
“Since viruses are so simple and since they claim there are 46 mutations (differences?) that separate IHU from the claimed previous versions of COVID, can this even be said to be COVID and not something entirely new, i.e. one of the many versions of the common cold?”
My understanding is that the common cold is caused by 200 different viruses of which 15% are a type of coronavirus. I predict that the covid omicron variant and future covid variants will get added to the list of viruses that cause the common cold.
“The person infected...was fully vaccinated and had just returned from a three-day trip to Cameroon when they tested positive, the researchers said.”
It wasn’t too long ago that we were all warned about visiting third world hell holes regarding the possibility of catching a disease. Now, that is racist, and commuting back and forth to such places seems to be promoted.
Which means the vax that they are going to demand be mandated again as a booster is not going to work on this variant either.
I’m beginning to suspect is true what someone else mentioned….. that China is seeding this world with variants.
Stop. Just stop.
By now, it’s a cold.
Enough with strains, variants, etc.
I’m not playing plandemic anymore.
What happens in Cameroon doesn't stay in Cameroon.
We need to punish the Chicoms who brought this upon us.
“New COVID variant called ‘IHU’ with 46 mutations detected in France”
I’m waiting for the ACHU variant that makes ya sneeze.
covfefe already.
WE DON’T BELIEVE YOU!
They say covid is now an endemic, so why a 1001 varieties? They can lock us down with one variant, from now until eternity. Whenever they want. We just rolled over and let it happen. Stay home, eat popcorn, take a vacation, trust the plan! The mysterious ‘they’ will round up the black hats while we stay home and life will return better than ever. Hip, Hip, Hurrah!
Nice reference.

The 12 infected persons will cross into the US via the southern border and then be flown to various destinations in the US courtesy of whoever, all while puddin cups is blaming the spread on the unvaccinated. Makes perfect sense.
When you see an article presented like this, it makes it very easy to ascertain the seriousness of the author and the subject.
"46 mutations? Let me look at the article to see exactly what that means. How many mutations does Omicron have? How many does Delta have?"
--looks at article and sees the info is missing--
"Oh, I get it. This is fear porn. They aren't trying to inform me at all. They are just trying to scare me. The new variant is probably harmless and the author is just trying to scare everyone. I will ignore this article and add fuel to the fire of my deep hatred of journalists and the media."
