Wretched Whitmer signs law allowing cafeteria workers and school bus drivers to teach school due to staffing shortages

Michigan’s Governor Gretchen Whitmer, who flip-flopped into supporting vaccine mandates just a few days ago, now recognizes a severe staffing shortage for schoolteachers. Her solution? Signing into law permission for other school employees to teach in their place. John Rigolizzo reports in the Daily Wire:

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed a bill into law that would attempt to alleviate a growing shortage of teachers in the state by allowing school staff to serve as substitutes.

Michigan House Bill 4294 “will temporarily allow schools to employ an individual without certification who already works at the school to substitute teach through the end of the 2021-2022 school year,” the governor’s office said in a press release Monday announcing the signing. That includes school staff such as secretaries, office staff, teacher’s aides, library aides, and even cafeteria workers and bus drivers, as long as they have a high school diploma or GED, FOX 2 Detroit reported.

Wait a minute! We are told that school bus drivers already in such short supply that in some states National Guard troops have been called up as fill-ins. If Whitmer re-purposes bus drivers as teachers, will she have to start calling out the Guard to replace them? Why not save trouble and just call out the Guard to teach?

Whitmer is also challenging the new gospel of the left, teachers – or as they like to term them, “educators” – are the only people to qualify for designing curricula. The all-powerful (in the Democrat party) teachers’ unions certainly think that teachers are special breed apart, possessed of superior wisdom unfathomable to those who didn’t attend a school of education.

That is a de facto admission that “professional” educators are worthless—something many of us suspected for a long time.

Home schooling bump.

If a kid is gonna get taught by a janitor or food server, it should be their parents!

I have a question.....
Why do you need a bachelors degree to teach second grade math?

Why not auto workers? Any union member in good standing seems to be sufficient - and the kids might actually learn how to do something practical.

To become indoctrinated in marxism and the techniques to continue the indoctrination.

"Michigan had to pass these laws because her VAX mandates caused staff to quit."

Two wrongs don't make a right.

"They will likely do a better job that these leftist teachers do."

I suspect the same myself.

More than likely, the kids will learn just as much if not more from the cafeteria workers and the school bus drivers!

Next, the Michigan legislators will pass, and Wretched Gretchen will sign, a bill to allow hospital janitors and ambulance drivers to practice medicine and surgery in hospitals because of a shortage of doctors and nurses.

That merely means that the "professional teachers" are as qualified to teach as cafeteria staff. Who said parents don't know enough to make these decisions?

Our civilization is collapsing. People need to do something in addition to blogging.

A step in the right direction. It would be awesome if they brought in welders, plumbers, and truck drivers to teach. But I doubt those folks would be willing to take the pay cut.

They will probably do better than many of the teachers.

I was a college professor for 15 years, but lack those teaching credentials to teach in a k-12 school. I would need to take nearly two years of undergraduate “education” classes to qualify to teach even high school social studies. Yet Whitmer would allow now school employees without degrees to teach? We are living in the Twilight Zone.

I hope they do such a good job that the teachers need to start driving busses and serving up food in the cafeteria for what those workers were earning.
