Electric certainly has its place.
My SIL who runs a golf course says the battery golf carts are perfect for the job, low maintenance, and reliable.
Of course juice is fairly cheap here in middle Indiana.
Okay so now what needs to be done is to divide by the cost of the vehicle. A 300 mile range costing $60k would be far worse than a 280 mile range costing $30k, as a hypothetical.
Well said!
I’ve noticed that most of the electric tools being sold now are without battery to make them appear lest costly.
I’d love to get an electric side-by-side rather than gas powered. For riding around on my 32 acres it would be ideal, especially since I could keep it charged with a single solar panel, that I already have. But they are seriously expensive.
They don’t say if it has the AC or heater on? Bet that plunges those numbers.
My diesel can go 810 miles on a tankful at 65MPH.It’s done it twice. And then it takes 4 minutes to refill it at any one of 400,000 stations nationwide.
I may have missed it, but although the author does mention temperature as a factor, it would help to know what temperature they ran these tests at.
Chicago to Detroit is about 280 miles by car; I’m assuming some of the best of these EV’s could handle that in the summer - but I do wonder if they’d make it on one charge in the dead of winter.
Love to see a dollar/mile chart to go with this....
So I could buy a $150,000 Tesla and it won’t make from San Francisco to Los Angeles.
Well, if it’s downhill and the Santa Anna Winds aren’t blowing..........................
I have chosen to live and work in a rural area. My house is less than 2 miles from my office. I average under 5,000 miles per year (most of that when I go out of town). Even at Biden gas prices, I don’t really care what gas mileage I get.
At $3/gallon for gas and only 20 MPG in my big, comfortable, (fully paid for) 2010 Suburban, I spend a total of about $750 per year for gas. If I spent $30,000 to $50,000 or more to buy a tiny beer can of a car that gets 40 MPG, it would save me about $375 per year for gas.
“Will you be good to yourself and use your car? Will you take a look at this? 6,000 pounds of solid comfort. It takes up space, it pollutes the atmosphere, it scares the birds, f*ck ‘em. I love it! - Serial (1980)

What is the average maximum round trip on city roads with an electric car?

There’s some crazy talk right now that Tesla will acquire Daimler-Benz; there’s also been some talk that the current head of VW, who finds himself undermined at ever step, will jump to Tesla.
Daimler Must Wish It Had Kept That Tesla Stake
A decent second-quarter performance could prove to be more of a hindrance than a help.

Electric tools are sold without batteries because if you have enough batteries you don’t want to pay extra for more you don’t need.
I never thought I would see an electric Harley. I am not doing EV or JAB. No thanks Xao Bai-Ding.

Or San Antonio to El Paso
“I’m assuming some of the best of these EV’s could handle that in the summer”
With the A/C blasting the whole way?
What a laugh.
Looking forward to one of my favorite roadtrips from Jersey to Florida in an eelctric car stopping every 300 miles to recahrge at - what ?- a half hour or so at a time - no thanks......
Are any EVs made that are rated for towing? My travel trailer is about 14,600 obs.
