[snip] Here the LA-ICP-MS results from 66 Roman gold coins (aurei) issued between AD 101 and AD 196 are presented. Aurei issued between AD 129 and AD 165 seemed to have been made from an antimony- and tellurium-rich gold. The Roman gold mines at Roșia Montană in Dacia, modern day Romania, produce antimony- and tellurium-rich gold, and we have precisely dated documentary evidence that suggests intensive mining activity occurred here from at least AD 131 until AD 167. The intensity of the proposed antimony- and tellurium-rich Roșia Montană ‘fingerprint’ in Roman gold coinage almost perfectly matches the chronological window of intensive exploitation of the Roșia Montană gold source. As such, gold from Dacia appears to have been one of the most dominant sources for the Roman supply network in the mid-second century, and the strategic importance of the province at this time should not be underestimated. ask the pope
Lucius Vorenus and Titus Pullo had a wagon full of gold; but, they gave it back. So, we know about that much of Rome’s gold. ;-D
In the Vatican.
Please send $100 to the current FReepathon, care of M Kehoe.

If I recall, that was Pullo, and Vorenus made him give it back, which wound up saving their asses that time and later.
Thought the Romans gave it to various groups in an attempt to buy security. So ask the Vandals, Goths, Vis-Goths, Huns, etc where it is.
Alas, it’s long gone, like a turkey through the corn.
The video covers the late Roman attempts to buy off the vast migrating herds of barbarians, and how it didn’t really work.
I think this guy has it.
Vandals took a bunch in a big smash and grab. Their descendants live in DemonRAT cities now.
Ft. Knox?...............................
Well, it WAS in my possession, but I took it for a boat ride, along with my guns and ammo and wouldn’t you know it!
Tragic. Boating. Accident.
Sorry, Gang! ;)
Bread and circuits.
That’s the cool thing about gold, unless it’s shot into space every iota of it is still here somewhere. Some of it is found daily.
Yeah, that’s the way it happened.
Their Senate passed a Build Back Better bill then they went broke and disappeared
One very interesting source of Roman gold was from their invasion of Gaule, Britain, and other Druid influenced Celtic populations. The Druids were a priesthood of Celtic “intellectuals” who were responsible for divining the future. It required years of study (like a PhD) in occult matters and made them so powerful that they were exempt from Celtic military service.
They believed the spirit world was separated from the living by a large body of water and the way to influence them was to throw your valuables, including gold, into a lake. The Celts had amassed large holdings of gold that were initially stored in Druid temples and then cast into various lakes.
When the Romans invaded Celtic regions in Britain, they auctioned off the lakes to Roman speculators to raise money for their war chests. The Roman engineers would drain the lakes and often recovered large caches of Celtic gold and valuables.
Or corn thru a turkey.
