EUGENE, Ore. -- The owner of a Eugene cookie store was assaulted while trying to enforce the mask mandate on Wednesday, police say.

It happened at about 11 a.m. at Crumb Together on Oak Street when a man and woman walked into the business and refused to wear a mask, police said. Police said Ricki Collin, 34, and Amy Hall, 45, both of the Portland area, were arrested and taken to the Lane County Jail after the altercation.

Meanwhile, the owner of the business was taken to a hospital for treatment of her cuts and bruises.

The man involved recorded the incident and shared it live on YouTube on Wednesday.

It begins with the man walking toward Crumb Together, saying he's heard reports the owner was chasing customers out of the store with a baseball bat.

The video shows the two going into the cookie store and the owner is heard saying they can't be in there because they don't have masks on. That's when the man says businesses have to serve the public and the owner repeatedly asks them to leave.

You can see the owner of Crumb Together try to point them to the door. The woman shoves the owner, who goes behind the counter to grab a baseball bat, but the man and woman again refused to leave. In the video, you can see the woman grab the bat, starting a physical fight between the three.

Police said Collin and Hall flagged down officers who were nearby following the assault and provided the video of the incident for officers to review. That's when officers took them both into custody for third-degree assault. Collin was also charged with third-degree robbery for reportedly walking away with the bat.

Back in August, the owners shared how they put out signs about their mask requirement. It said, "Because of the unvaccinated, masks required again. Thank you for your support!"

The owner, Deirdre Steirpe, told KEZI at the time that she'd had enough with those who choose to be unvaccinated.

"I was infuriated, I was angry, you know this has really affected our business and you know as a business owner, freedom of speech and I felt it was necessary," said Steirpe.

In October, owners of the store posted on the Crumb Together Twitter account about issues with prank calls and claiming that an anti-masker pointed a gun in their direction while in a vehicle. To read the thread, CLICK HERE.

EDITOR'S NOTE: The video of the incident has been taken down.

I can remember when all businesses and stores (including convenience stores) had a sign like this posted on their doors and windows:

“Disclaimer: I do not wear a mask. If a business just recommends a mask, I’ll enter without one. If a business requires a mask, I’ll shop somewhere else.”

EXACTLY CORRECT!

I hate masks. I hate mask mandates. I can’t stand mask nazis.

But that couple was clearly in the wrong and it appears they went to that shop just to stir up trouble.

Me either. I can turn around and walk out just as easy as I walked in. Hell with them.

But, there was no reason for the owner to pull out a baseball bat.

If some aggressive b*tch comes into my shop and puts her hands on me, she’s lucky if a baseball bat is all I pull out.

“No shoes, no shirt, no service” was by order of the municipal Health Department, not the business owner.

I was just now in two Publix stores without a mask.

Full disclosure: I had the second Pfizer vaccine in May.   I was just at my six month appointment two and a half weeks ago and my Doctor made me promise to always wear a mask everywhere even though I have had the shot.   She also said I should get the booster shot in December.   My wife said she will not get the COVID shot ever again because she feels like it increased the severity of floaters in her eyes.

That municipal Health Department sign depended on what city you were in.   Many stores across the country had the sign for good order, decorum and politeness without any government mandate.

Are the visitors from Portland libertarians or conservatives? I can see the ultra-liberal kookism in Eugene, but you’d think anybody from Portland would be simpatico with the mask mandate in the cookie store. Something doesn’t add up here.

If you don’t like a store policy, then shop somewhere else.

Just like, if a baker refuses to bake the cake you want, then buy your cake from another baker.

If a storeowner demands you wear a mask you don’t want to wear, then don’t go to that store.

Making business owners and their employees the enforcers for the Federal and State governments’ vaccine and mask mandates should be against the law.

I think this is the one that was ubiquitous, but problematic. :

Probably more correct than you know...

Do you have any idea who Eugene Stoner was?

The number of people on this thread who think “property rights” mean businesses can deny service to anyone they don’t like is way off in sovereign citizen-land or something.

The entire mazk/vax mandates of whatever kind are entirely unconstitutional and thus illegal.

# Sure, and if they don’t want to serve black people...want to deny you your inalienable right to keep and bear arms...don’t want to adhere to fire codes...

Exactly. Suppose they don’t want to make accomodations for people in wheelchairs?

Our side is willing to kill itself over this kind of crapm which is especially stupid when these people are effectively acting as agents of the state to enforce their ‘rules’ for these placebos.. Back when they still had those mask idiots around here, I simply told the morons “I’m medically exempt”, and went on with my business. The ADA is actual law, passed by an actual congress, and signed by an actual president. It’s not this illegal and immoral ‘rule’, or ‘mandate’ crap.
