Rolls-Royce (OTCPK:RYCEY, OTCPK:RYCEF) is awarded a contract to provide upgraded engines for the U.S. Air Force's B-52 bomber fleet in an award that could grow to $2.6B, the Department of Defense announces, beating out General Electric (NYSE:GE) and incumbent Pratt & Whitney (NYSE:RTX).
Rolls-Royce was given an initial six-year $501M base contract to supply 608 engines for installation on the Air Force's 76 active-duty and reserve B-52s, which could grow to $2.6B if all options are exercised

Oh yea just added stupid to the list.
it’s 4 in this upgrade. The old layout of 4 twin pods is being changed to 4 big turbofans. More power, better gas mileage and range.
A military pilot called for a priority landing because his single-engine jet fighter was running “a bit peaked.”
Air Traffic Control told the fighter pilot that he was number two, behind a B-52 that had one engine shut down.
“Ah,” the fighter pilot remarked, “The dreaded seven-engine approach.”
There is a story about the military pilot calling ATC for a priority landing because his single-engine jet fighter was running "a bit peaked." ATC told the fighter jock that he was number two behind a B-52 that had one shut down."Ah," the pilot remarked, "the dreaded seven-engine approach!"

I don’t know if they’re going to find too many 8 fingered pilots.
Yes, they won - But politically speaking, Rolls would be ill-served “because they are a foreigners” ... Wait for this too to be cancelled later due to pressure from New York-Mass-CT legislation for “their” home-town (too expensive but labor_favored) local companies!
But it is about time! Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too long to get these engines updated.
You want to avoid the dreaded seven-engine approach.
And the profits go to Great Britain
I still say one engine for one airplane.
You don’t see them putting 8 engines on a tank.
OK, Steve McQueen did it but he’s the only one.
Each plane has 8 engines.
You can’t get away from Mil-Spec. If you put another two wings on it the Air Force is gonna want to put eight more engines on it too.
The reason is engine size. They need to be able to fit the engines into the cowlings.
Seeing that the B-52 has 8 jet engines, there is definitely a need for more than 2 engines per plane, plus there is the need for replacement engines to put in the plane during engine overhaul times, instead of it being a “hangar queen”.
I doubt there’s enough clearance below the wing for a high bypass turbofan engine anyway. The way those wings flap, a large diameter engine would be scraping the nacelle on the runway all the time.
Please, I beg everyone to watch ‘Dr. Strangelove’- Stanley Kubrick’s masterpiece! It is hilarious! Great cast( George C. Scott et al- ‘ pink panther’ star plays two or three different parts!)
LOL...that’s a good one.
UK & RR “building back better”
