Rolls-Royce (OTCPK:RYCEY, OTCPK:RYCEF) is awarded a contract to provide upgraded engines for the U.S. Air Force's B-52 bomber fleet in an award that could grow to $2.6B, the Department of Defense announces, beating out General Electric (NYSE:GE) and incumbent Pratt & Whitney (NYSE:RTX).
Rolls-Royce was given an initial six-year $501M base contract to supply 608 engines for installation on the Air Force's 76 active-duty and reserve B-52s, which could grow to $2.6B if all options are exercised

608 engines for 76 airplanes?
That’s like…………more than 2 engines per plane.
Yay. B52s keep flying. We’ll be seeing the great grandchildren if the original pilots flying them eventually.
Ping!
Rolls-Royce makes a good engine, but it is disappointing that GE and P&W lost out.
That bomber will be flying for the next 500 years. And then, the Chinese or Taliban will inherit them. ;)
When was the last brand new B52 built? Why would they stop building them?
I guess the Buyden Administration figures it is better to smooth a few ruffled feathers over Afghanistan than to Buy American.
I think this aircraft has 4 engines. And don’t forget the need for spares in the spare parts inventory.
8 engines per plane, you do the math.
...plus the 10% to the big guy.
B-52 has 8 engines
Methinks the B-52 has 8 engines per aircraft.
“That’s like…………more than 2 engines per plane.”
EXACTLY - that’s the problem with DOD, the IDIOTS there buy 8 engines for each plane. What’s their plan for the other 6 engines? Throw them out, if not, we’ll have to pay to store them, maybe for decades.
We need to get rid of DOD!
Really? They rejected TWO American firms and gave the contract to the Brits?? What the heck?
Rolls-Royce has been accused numerous times of corrupt practices and bribery. Most recently, in 2014, facing allegations of bribery in the aftermath of the Sudhir Choudhrie affair, Rolls-Royce offered to return money to the Indian government.[61] The Serious Fraud Office (SFO) also investigated allegations of bribery in Indonesia and China.[62]
In February 2015 Rolls-Royce was accused of bribing an employee of Brazil’s state-controlled oil company to win a $100 million contract to provide gas turbines for oil platforms.[63]
In October 2016 a joint Guardian and BBC investigation alleged widespread corruption by Rolls-Royce through middlemen in foreign countries including Brazil, India, China, Indonesia, South Africa, Angola, Iraq, Iran, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Nigeria and Saudi Arabia. Rolls-Royce became subject to a major SFO investigation.[64]
(maybe I should read the article?)
The B-52 has eight engines.
Oh, didn’t know that.
They wound not have if Trump was president. Buy American.
