608 engines for 76 airplanes?
That’s like…………more than 2 engines per plane.

I think this aircraft has 4 engines. And don’t forget the need for spares in the spare parts inventory.

EXACTLY - that’s the problem with DOD, the IDIOTS there buy 8 engines for each plane. What’s their plan for the other 6 engines? Throw them out, if not, we’ll have to pay to store them, maybe for decades.
We need to get rid of DOD!

Your point?
To: blueunicorn6
That’s 304 engines for a four engine system. One on the plane, and one spare for each position.

Seeing that the B-52 has 8 jet engines, there is definitely a need for more than 2 engines per plane, plus there is the need for replacement engines to put in the plane during engine overhaul times, instead of it being a “hangar queen”.

B-52’S are an old design. 8-engines per plane. For redundancy reasons it isn’t practical to cut that to say 4-engines. If you lost 1/8th of your thrust on takeoff while fully loaded, it’s manageable. Lose 25%... all on 1 side... and the biggest rudder in the world won’t save you.
