Tell Me About Your Ride
Yesterday, I inadvertantly hijacked a Bible Thread in the Religion Forum to talk about my Motorcycle. Since I started riding in late Autumn of 1972, next year will mark my 50th Anniversary on two wheels. At the time, women were not as avid bikers as they are today. My Present Bike is pictured above, and is a 93FXR in "Sapphire Blue". I bought it at Hampton Roads Harley Davidson on the way home from attending Rolling Thunder. I traded in my Sportster and did the 700 mile ride home on that beautiful bike. From the VIN, we have ascertained that she was born in the York, PA Plant sometime in June 1992, so next year, "Blue" will be thirty. Blue and I have done 8 Rolling Thunder Rallies together, one Daytona, Blue Ridge Parkway, The Colonial Triangle, Laconia and the Kangamangus Highway, Alligator Alley and Florida's Gulf Coast, The Florida Keys, I95 the whole way, and the Appalachians in West Virginia (Monongahela State Forest and Blackwater Falls). We have gone through Hurricanes, Tornadoes, and Flash Floods together. I'm posting this thread so we can share our stories without having to hijack a Bible Thread LOL!
Let Me hear From You.

1964.5 Mustang............ Be sure to get the proper restoration stuff, like door handles and misc. Many of the parts for that car were repurposed Falcon parts............... If you’re doing a showcar..........

My first motorcycle (1983) was a 1972 Aermacchi Harley 350SS very similar to this one -- the Harleys that Harley would rather not talk about.
Single cylinder into two exhausts, 4 stroke (really!), busted electric starter, kick crank that would kick back like a mule!
Hidden behind that black triangular piece was a rather large riding mower battery.
Some exhaust port on the top midsection threw oil like a mofo. I deflected it downward with a piece of green garden hose.
Parts were getting increasingly hard to find for it by 1983, so I sold it off.
But man, I did love riding that bike. Loved its voluptuous red gas tank and the freedom that came with riding it!

I don’t understand why people name their beasts after women, so my Black Hills Gold & Satin Black 2017 Road King is named “The Gold King”. He’s got power to spare. So far I’ve done a ride down to the lower 48 & back to Alaska, and several in-state rides.
It’s my daily driver when it’s warm enough, & have taken camping several times. He is a brawny, heavy beast that I smile at every day. I tell everyone it’s my retirement bike. I hope to have it until retirement and until I can’t ride anymore.

I ran an ad to sell the Norton and a guy from Australia drove up in a U haul truck. I asked $1,000 and he peeled off 10 $100 bills without flinching.
He had a couple more Limey bikes in the truck and said he was shipping them back home. He said the manufacturers had sent most of their production to the US...

BTW; this is bike week here at Lake of the Ozarks. We’re swamped with Harleys.

In 72 I had a Yamaha 360 Enduro that I earned the money for and my dad was not happy but couldn’t say a whole lot cuz I paid for it cash on the barrelhead.
Later on I had a Lambretta 350 single basket case, got it running.
A Ducati 160 and 260 basket cases, got ‘em running.
Honda 550 four
Honda 750
Suzuki GS 750
Yamaha XT250 dual purpose
78 BMW R80
Dad was an FLH ridin’ Shriner... I was the yard slave and FLH detailer, torque-guy, remote control... you name it. I guess I never got over the FLH and never got one because of it.
Never really liked riding on Interstate I was more of a RT kind of guy. Lumbar keeps me off the bikes these days, but I still hold an interest.

The Honda CR500 was Unbeatable off road. Still is. The 450 4strokes are jokes in comparison. Way way down on power and so expensive with short engine lives.

Sixty five horsepower I think.....it can still run or outrun all the fancy 450-650 off road bikes
KTM and Aprilla likely can beat it
Incredible
Of course there is the unspoken monster of today....this bike needs a man on it

The BMW motorcycle is the one true “ultimate driving machine”. BTW, beemer refers to the bike, bimmer refers to the car.

I had soaked the carbs in cleaner for a week and had just put them back in, but that's where I decided to take a shortcut and skipped putting in the cuffs to the air cleaner.
Well, now I know about that the hard way =P
