SANTA FE – As cases swell and hospital beds fill up, New Mexico will reimpose a mask mandate for public indoor spaces and require hospital workers to be vaccinated against COVID-19 or face the possibility of losing their jobs.
Public, private and charter school employees also will face new requirements under public health orders issued Tuesday.
Teachers and other school employees will have the option of either getting vaccinated or undergoing weekly coronavirus testing, matching a requirement already in place for state workers. And everyone will be required to wear a mask regardless of vaccination status.
Meanwhile, the mask mandate will apply to all individuals ages 2 or older in all indoor public settings without regard to vaccination status, with eating and drinking the only allowable exception. That mandate takes effect Friday and will continue through Sept. 15, although it could be extended.

New Mexico has one of the nation’s highest COVID-19 vaccination administration rates, with 74.9% of residents who are 18 or older having gotten at least one vaccine dose and about 65.9% who have completed the series, as of Tuesday, according to state Department of Health data.
Effective immediately, the new public health order regarding vaccines will require vaccination for people working in “high-risk” settings, such as hospitals, nursing homes, hospice facilities and state prisons. It will apply to doctors, nurses, pharmacists and others.
Medical and religious exemptions will be granted. Workers who aren’t already vaccinated will have to get their first dose within 10 days.
However, Sen. Gregg Schmedes, R-Tijeras, said the vaccine mandate for health care workers could exacerbate a nursing shortage and prompt some employees to leave the field – and possibly the state.

The guy might as well have said that we should all be pleased that God gave certain doctors the skills and expertise to do late term abortions.
People need to stop complying with this mask nonsense. Even the CDC agrees they don’t work. I urge people to turn this mandate around by wearing a Halloween mask instead. Mock their power grab while having a good laugh at their expense. My choice is the “V” for Vendetta mask if I absolutely positively have to put one on for some reason.
Just like last year the states with female lib governors seemed to issue their mandates in lockstep with each other. Almost like they coordinate amongst themselves.
