The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.
If you have specific question about a plant/problem you are having, please remember to state the Growing Zone where you are located.
This thread is a non-political respite. No matter what, you won’t be flamed, and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked.
It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table Recipes, Preserving, Good Living - there is no telling where it will go - and that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us! Send a Private Message to Diana in Wisconsin if you'd like to be added to our New & Improved Ping List.
NOTE: This is a once a week Ping List. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest to Gardeners are welcomed any time!
Well heck, why aren’t they everywhere?
Nope. They hold up well. Less mushy than Bread & Butter pickles, if you know what I mean.
Thanks, Pete!
No not nearly as mushy as cukes.
Or mexican zucchini boats..
You wait, and wait, and wait - then you get up one morning and all of a sudden you’ve got zucchini like Kirk had tribbles....

lol!
I’m hoping it’ll be like that with my tomatoes. For the first time ever I’ve done some gardening, in the form of a tomato plant on my patio in a five gallon bucket.
This heroic plant has produced a handful of nearly grown green tomatoes plus about a dozen little marble sized guys and probably another dozen really tiny ones just out of their blooms.
I’m surprised by how smitten I am with this plant. Next week I’m going out of town and I had to get someone lined up to water it.
Prepare one 16 oz. box of tri-colored corkscrew pasta. Core, seed and chop up two paste tomatoes. Chop up one sweet red bell pepper. Use about 3/4 of a can of medium black olives, halved, and half a brick of Sharp White Cheddar, cut into small chunks. Chop up one medium green or yellow zucchini. Use 1 bottle of your favorite Italian Dressing (16 oz.) , a number of good shakes of Italian Seasoning and 1 Tbsp. Poppy Seed. Keep in the fridge, covered, but let sit out for a while before serving; I think the flavor is better when at room temperature.

Recipe?
I do not like b&b pickles

Mom made squash stew...Yellow squash, potatoes, tomatoes and onions. Not bad. Filled your belly.
I got three varieties. The burpee butter stick is the most prolific. a green finally fruited and a green and white as well. Also started the winter squash now are about 8 inches high. WIll plant them and another batch of peas for the fall. I have about 26 tomato plants that i put 16 in late as i was trying to sell them. I did sell some but could just throw out good plants. plenty of marketmore cukes. They are excellent. small seeds and lots of meat.

You are most welcome! And thank you Diana for all your work in hosting this thread!
No Zuccini yet. but its growing. I used gardening fabric on my young tomatoes when we had that early May freeze and it worked well! , but lots of Tomatoes and Basil! (Bruschetta last night!)
Three heads of cabbage in the refrigerator. Potato onions and dill drying on back porch, garlic harvested and braided.
First picking beets, rutabagas, and kohlrabi done. Okra and leeks are growing, picked first Okra pod the other day.
Weird weather this year. Rain and Mid-eighty degree weather here on the KS/MO border.
Lots of figs growing. Already had several Brebas!
We just never had squash when I was a kid. Lots of tomatoes, potatoes, corn, and beans. And strawberries! I like it stir fried with other veggies now and then.
I also like zuke bread - but in addition to being too lazy to make it, I am not supposed to have those CARBS. Ha.
Fortunately, my mom liked to bake and so does my daughter. It’s a win, win for me.
The rain coming off the roof near the front by the stairs has pretty much killed the plants, spreading disease and waterlogging them. About 3/4 of the rest are growing as is the squash but some disease is seen on many leaves, which I cut off.
I would show pictures but once again the Samsung S6 Galaxy phone that someone gave me (which is not activated, but I connect to the Internet with it and via USB to my PC ) is no longer connecting to my PC, or Windows has decided it does not exist, despite following directions to fix it.
But otherwise we are very very much blessed, thanks be to God.
