McDonald's Burger Factory Blockaded by Activists (UK)

Climate change and animal rights protesters in the U.K. have blocked entry to a factory which makes burgers for McDonald's while demanding the fast-food chain moves to an entirely plant-based menu.

Around 50 activists from the Animal Rebellion group have set up camp and formed a blockade at the OSI Food Solutions factory in Scunthorpe, England, in a bid to cause "massive disruption" to McDonald's supply chain.

**SNIP**

"More generally, McDonald's represents the broader meat and dairy industry, which we want to see a transition to a plant based food system, which in line with reports and science which shows a need to drastically reduce the amount of meat and dairy we consume in order to reduce the effects of the climate crisis," Harley McDonald-Eckersall, an Animal Rebellion spokesperson who is taking part in the protest, told Newsweek.

"It a specific demand of McDonald's to own up to the responsibility that they have to transition their menu to being plant based in the near future. There is also our broader demand that we need a transition to a plant based food system in order to have a future and have a planet which is habitable for generations to come," McDonald-Eckersall added.

Rose Patterson, a spokesperson for Animal Rebellion, said in a statement: "We're living in a time where massive change is possible, but our window to act on the climate crisis is closing quickly.

"The meat and dairy industries are responsible for 80-90 percent of Amazon deforestation, at least 18 percent of global emissions, and for exploiting and killing billions of animals every year.

"To save ourselves and the future of our children, we must start transitioning towards a plant-based food system."

That may be the cruelest suggestion I have ever seen posted on this forum. More merciful to simply kill them outright...

‘Tis a fate worse than death. A vision of hell on earth. ;-)

Last week my wife's little sister and her husband came up from California stayed with us for three days. It was a living hell. As soon as he retires they are planning on moving from California because of all the BS, and spreading the liberal pathogen that has infected their minds to some other unsuspecting part of the country.

The two of them watched a leftist propaganda film on Netflix called Cowspiracy and bought into it completely and was sharing all the fake statistics with me. According to this piece of leftist nonsense it takes 1800 gallons of water to produce a pound of hamburger and cows produce twice as much green house gasses than all the cars and trucks in the world. So I asked them why the 70 million buffalo that used to graze in our great planes didn't cause “global warming” that should have then burned up the planet a couple of centuries ago.

The problem is that people actually do buy into this nonsense. Propaganda has more influence today than it ever did in previous times.

It takes approximately 1,847 gallons of water to produce 1 pound of beef — that’s enough water to fill 39 bathtubs all the way to the top.Feb 14, 2019

It always good to know when you meet someone whose Bullshit meter doesn't work at all. I grew up with and raised cattle. They do not take that much water. The calculations you are quoting are based on nonsensical statistics based on fantasies about what by people who have never touched a cow in their life believe cattle eat and drink.

By the way our cows were/are grass fed eating grass from non-irrigated pastures. And the amount of water the whole herd drinks is less than what a small family uses for taking baths and showers.

But good job finding and repeating leftist propaganda with Google. I am sure that you have given everyone here a chuckle.

“It takes approximately 1,847 gallons of water to produce 1 pound of beef.”

I’m guessing that they take into account the water it takes to grow the plants for feed (stockyard cows), but it wouldn’t surprise me if they include rainfall as well.

The water used in processing the meat (cleaning, freezing, etc.)

Heck - they might even figure that it takes 20 people to raise the cow and get it to market (truckers, etc.) and include their 8 glasses of water and 1 gallon per flush of the toilet.

I’ve also seen crazy numbers of how much water it takes to grow corn (ethanol) compared to other food crops that are now not being grown.

The documentary that my Brother-in-law quoted from is called “Cowspiracy”. It was from 2014 and featured the usual left wing Hollywood virtue signaling suspects. Every statistic used in the movie has been thoroughly debunked including the 1847 gallons of water per pound of beef produced. But once leftists latch onto something they never let go of it. It is an often quoted made up number with no connection to reality.

There are 94.4 million cattle and calves currently residing in the United States. 10% of these are dairy cows. So that leaves 85 million beef cattle. At slaughter the average carcass yields 500 pounds of meat and is 18 months old. 85 million multiplied by 500, multiplied by 1847 equals 78.5 trillion gallons of water every 18 months or 52.3 trillion gallons per year.

To give this some perspective the average US citizen uses 82 gallons of water per day, multiplied by 330 million multiplied by 365 days equals 2.54 trillion gallons of water per year. We are suppose to believe that cows use over 20 times more water than people do in this country.

The infrastructure does not exist to deliver that amount of fresh water to the cows in this country, especially considering that the vast majority of cows live in rural areas. Has everyone forgotten that cows used to be "driven" thousands of mile through areas with little water from Texas to markets North. Has everyone forgotten all the cowboy movies by people such as oOhn Wayne that used to be popular?

In most parts of the country water is fairly expensive and many of us can't even afford to water our lawns in the summer. Farmers could not afford to use the amount of water that these clowns are claiming cows use. My parents and brother who still raise beef cattle use water from a municipal water system for their cows. They pay the same rate as every one else. They do not water their lawns and their water bills are less than most of their neighbors who don's have cows but water their lawns.

It is sad to me that people in this forum accept without question the crap that leftists throw out as facts. It is made up nonsense in many cases.

I like you putting it into perspective with human usage of water. I was thinking of looking into it with regard to amount of energy (calories I guess) compared to vegetarian stuff - but not THAT interested in it!

Ok - I did. There is actually MORE calories in a pound of corn than in a pound of hamburger.

I guess I’ll just stick to the argument of “Well, I eat meat because I enjoy it!”

Of course one can’t just look at calories. Lots of other nutrients and stuff to consider (hence having a “well-balanced-diet”.)

A relative married a rancher that raised beef. He never ate chicken! I can’t recall if he forbade it or not, but his wife would always get chicken to eat the few times she went into town each year!
