Subway claims that its tuna is "100% wild caught," but a lab test paid for by The New York Times found absolutely no tuna DNA in over 60 inches of sandwich.

Well, nutria is a KIND of tuna. For certain definitions of "tuna."

“The experiment included sandwiches from three Subway shops in Los Angeles.”
The article goes on to note that other tests have confirmed tuna in the, er, tuna in different locations.
The most likely explanation is that the Subway franchisee operating those shops in LA got cheap and didn’t want to actually pay for tuna. Few Subways are corporate stores, almost all of them are independent franchisees and Subway doesn’t police them anywhere nearly as well as they could. Not the first time a franchisee (in general, not just Subway) has played fast and loose with ingredients to increase profit margins.

Subway food is largely unfit for human consumption. In the earlier case of two women suing Subway for their tuna-free tuna, the tests revealed not only no tuna but no fish at all! I can see substituting some cheaper fish for tuna, but no fish at all?!?! What the heck is it? And Subway brazenly boasts that their tuna is sustainably and mercifully harvested!

Compared to other Subway meat, the Tuna appeared to be the only actual meat. Seems my instincts were off. One of these days we will wake up and find Bill Gates’ prognostications of a “Meatless America” has already been implemented…long ago…

Didn’t they get caught using ingredients from Yoga Mats in their bread once upon a time?
