I have read claims that cholesterol does not become a plague inducing feature of the blood circulatory system (regardless of diet) if aspects of diet have not predisposed that to happen due to inflammation of that system, due to dietary factors unrelated to cholesterol.
In short, first the circulatory system’s walls become “rough” with inflammation, which induces the collection of materials that would otherwise pass through the system normally. Once the process begins and is not corrected, the inflammation caused collections become “glue” that increases the material that collects.
The standard school of thought is that the circulatory accumulations precede and cause the inflammation, while others believe the inflammation occurs first.
I am not sure if it all is just a “which comes first, the chicken or the egg” matter.
every one of them including non statin make me feel like ive been hit in the kidneys by a truck
“that some who were once thought not to need them now could benefit from them.”
Yeah, executives of drug companies want more money.
Statins reduce inflammation.
Thank you, very much; I appreciate your kindness.
I’ve developed kidney problems too (Mild Stage 2); the passing of protein out, instead of letting it get into my body.
If it ain’t one thing, it’s something else...
Agree. When the low fat craze came late in the 20th century, it was accompanied by much higher amounts of sugar in processed food. This is when the huge spike in type two diabetes occurred. Our bodies are not designed to eat large amounts of any kind of refined carbohydrates especially sugar but flour is just about as bad.
Get a NMR LipoProfile blood test. You need to know the difference between the LDL-B (the bad ones) and LDL-A - the soft fluffy ones that cause no harm.
Lowering the amount of processed carbs and and sugar (including alcohol, unfortunately) is important.
Mortality from all causes plotted against total cholesterol.
> oatmeal....carbs
The right mix of molasses and sucralose works well for me ... but the oatmeal itself does give a blast of carbs.
I have wondered if statins, like so many other drugs treat a symptom without without actually fixing anything. Research has noted that people with heart problems strongly tend to have high cholesterol, particularly LDL therefore lowering cholesterol will reduce their heart disease. Statins effects the symptom of high cholesterol so we assume it fixes what is wrong.
However the body makes cholesterol to counter damage in the body. We now know that cholesterol in our diet has very little to do with how much is in our blood stream. In a person with high cholesterol the body senses something is damaged and is trying to fix it. Statins interfere with cholesterol production so if something is damaged and the body needs to fix it, statins prevent that. The more effective solution is to figure our what is getting damaged and how and fix that. If statins do that, so be it, but the current model as presented by doctors seems too simplistic.
My personal opinion is our diets have too much sugar, particularly fructose, and other chemicals our body has a difficult time processing so it develops irritation and inflammation. The irritation and inflammation trigger cholesterol to counter them. If we fix our diets we fix a myriad of problems that includes the inflammation triggering cholesterol production and we stop contributing to damage that results in heart disease.
I look forward to watching this video when I have some time.
I went to a specialist that prescribed it for me “just to be safe”. It was his opinion that Statins should be added to the water like flouride. Seriously!
I don’t take it.
My cholesterol has been under control for some time now. I take 1000mg of Krill Oil and 580mg of Garlic bulb. It seems to work for me. Is there a connection between the original statins and wheel chairs, you betcha. I took statins for a short period of time and got a tweaked right hip joint from it. Stopped that stupidity immediately. It doesn’t bother me except when I’m on a long hike every now and then. I have never had any other joint problems.
Doctors prescribe drugs. It’s what they do. Some patients think doctors are godlike. Some doctors think they’re god. The combination can lead to bad results.
Father and paternal grandfather both had heart attacks in their late 50’s early 60’s. I’m middle child and 66. Been taking statins for 20 years and no evidence of heart disease. Same with all my siblings except one older sister - not sure if she ever was on them or not.
I’m attributing improvements to the statins but like they say, YMMV.
“...5 heart stents for bundle blockage”. I could certainly be mistaken, but aren’t bundle branch blockages electrical issues? Aren’t stents used for blood carrying vessels?
So true. And our bodies crave sugar. It helps us know when fruit is ripe.
I love bread, but I treat a slice of bread as a candy bar. The body processes them both about the same way. I eat steel cut oats as my primary grain.
My Holistic MD said after my physical and full range blood work when I asked if I could cut back on Lipitor (tm), “as far as I am concerned, you should stop taking it completely, today.”
Using enzymes, targeted supplements, and paleo diet, the cholesterol stays uner 200 and trigs are totally dependent on recent sugar intake.
Don’t eat a snickers bar on the day of test.
If they make you feel that bad, do you think they could be good for you? That is some loopy thinking.
I speak as one who cannot tolerate statins. BTW the story is that your risk of a heart attack goes down by 50% if you take statins ....blah, blah, blah ...
Actually, the rest of the story is that certain individuals are thought to have a 3%(+/-) risk of a hear attach WITHOUT statins; and a 2%(+/-) risk WITH statins.
Much wisdom in your post. The single greatest thing anyone can do to improve their health is to cut out sugar and refined grains.
