This image from CBS Denver shows a Key Lime Air Metroliner that landed safely at Centennial Airport after a mid-air collision near Denver on Wednesday, May 12, 2021. Federal officials say two airplanes collided but that there are no injuries. The collision between a twin-engine Fairchild Metroliner and a single-engine Cirrus SR22 happened as both planes were landing, according to the National Transportation Safety Board. Key Lime Air, which owns the Metroliner, says its aircraft sustained substantial damage to the tail section but that the pilot was able to land safely.

Gee, did Blucifer hit one of the planes with his laser eyes? (or some other weird conspiracy theory surrounding DEN)
This looks like an ACTUAL “near miss”.
Usually they call it a “near miss” when they totally miss each other and merely come close.
If they totally collide and disappear in a ball of flame, I guess that’s a “hit”.
Two planes with some damage that both land safely? That’s what a “near miss” really looks like.
Wow, lucky that plane wasn’t full of passengers.
This is my home field and involved a few friends of mine. How this happened with the skill level of the pilots is a mystery.
Guardian angels....................
The Key Lime plane looks a little chancy.
Cirrus SR22
The Cirrus SR22 is a single-engine four- or five-seat composite aircraft built from 2001 by Cirrus Aircraft of Duluth, Minnesota. It is a development of the Cirrus SR20, with a larger wing, higher fuel capacity, and a more powerful, 310-horsepower engine
I find it surprising the pilot of the Cirrus SR22 was wearing a parachute.
At first I thought a Cirrus SR22 would be an ultra-light.
He wasn’t. The PLANE WAS.....................
“This looks like an ACTUAL “near miss”.”
This was a collision, not a miss.
“I find it surprising the pilot of the Cirrus SR22 was wearing a parachute.”
Where did you see the pilot was wearing a chute?
Got any details? Sounds like one plane tried to land on another. Can’t really see much out an airplane cockpit window and especially not what’s directly beneath you.
There are actually parachutes attached to planes these days. Small planes. Not jumbo jets. As an option. Especially sport planes.
It was such a nice day the pilot decided to put the top down.
A miss is a miss.
A “near miss” is a collision. But the media fails to use the term that way. They say a “near miss” is a “miss”.
This thing was a collision. Which is a “near miss” in that they almost missed, but didn’t miss at all.
Parallel runways, the Metroliner was landing on 17L and the Cirrus was landing on 17R. It appears the Cirrus turned final and struck the Metroliner. May have lined up on the wrong runway.
Both are lucky to have survived. Pictures of the Metroliner show the fuselage damage close to the tail of the aircraft and damage to the Cirrus fuselage is just aft of the ballistic parachute.
Both VERY lucky.
No, and I wouldn’t comment as that could place people in a bad situation.
