Former Officer Derek Chauvin was justified in pinning George Floyd to the ground because of his frantic resistance, a use-of-force expert testified for the defense Tuesday, contradicting a parade of authorities from both inside and outside the Minneapolis Police Department.
Taking the stand at Chauvin’s murder trial, Barry Brodd, a former Santa Rosa, California, police officer, said officers don’t have to wait for something bad to happen; they need only to have a reasonable fear that there’s a threat and then adjust their actions accordingly.
“It’s easy to sit and judge … an officer’s conduct. It’s more of a challenge to, again, put yourself in the officer’s shoes to try to make an evaluation through what they’re feeling, what they’re sensing, the fear they have, and then make a determination,” Brodd said.
He also said he didn’t believe Chauvin and the other officers used deadly force when they pinned Floyd on his stomach, with his hands cuffed behind his back and Chauvin’s knee on his neck or neck area for what prosecutors say was 9½ minutes. …

To the Left = #mindblown
Food deserts imminent
He was resisting so yeah, that’s what you do. But for over 9 minutes is what makes it tricky I guess. If he pinned him for a couple of minutes and let up and he OD’d and died would there be a trial.
They State's own use-of-force expert that they paid $13k for, who is a black guy, agreed when the defense crossed on the stand.
Uh-huh.
I hope this expert has his own protection brigade with him.
One less POS off the street that can’t breed anymore either.
Drug overdose death who was in piss poor health.
His loss is a gain for society.
“His loss is a gain for society.”
That is the brutal truth.
It is easy to second guess cops and I am more guilty than most.
Chauvin was man on the spot. He was under threat from the local wildlife, with a resisting perp who was dying from an overdose. I don’t know what he could of done better.
I guess the next headline will be “Expert says State justified in Railroading Chauvin.”
It was inevitable that the parties would each put “experts” on the stand.
“Experts” are the bane of meaningful trials.
The language manipulation is a real pain in the neck area.
If Mr. Barry Brodd is a white, ex-cop, expert on police restraint, it won’t matter what he says.
The bottom line to me is the guy died from an overdose of drugs and the physical exertion he brought on to himself from fighting the cops. For that the family was paid $27 million.
I’ve been trained in use of force as a police officer in a saner age. Additional factors ramp up the level of force that can justifiably be used. Some of these factors elude most people, but are highly logical if you think rationally about it. Size/strength differences between the perp and the officer is one (check). Extended duration of the episode due to the subject resisting (check). Environment that could potentially become hostile (check).
Chauvin was actually very restrained and conservative in the amount of force used against Floyd. Considering Floyd dickered around for several minutes without fully complying was on him completely.
The ferals started last night.
He needs to serve some time.
Of course a totally biased opening line. Every single one of the "authorities" was essentially shredded by the defense on cross. The defense got them to admit that Chauvin was justified AND correct in the how he restrained him.
“The language manipulation is a real pain in the neck area.”
Maybe a little lower.

Is burnlootmurder rioting yet?
They say because the cops toe wasn't touching the ground...on the leg that was doing the restraining...Chauvin was using about 91 lbs of pressure. That's ridiculous. Chauvin's weight was on his other leg. Try it...
The guy was a druggie, probably a dealer and gosh knows what else.
And he wasn't turning his life around. Full-fledged criminal.
