The United States are "absolutely devastated" at missing out on qualification for the Olympic men's soccer tournament following Sunday's 2-1 defeat to Honduras, said coach Jason Kreis.

If they can do more running than 10-15 miles in 90 minutes then you win.

Then I would say I win. Lacrosse players are always on the move.

My suggestion is to watch collegiate lacrosse (not indoor lacrosse) sometime. An amazing sport.

I’ve watched it and I’m at least willing to give it a shot.

I’ll have to look up the mileage info however on the sport.

It has way more athletic value than the sports I jabbed at earlier.

Europe is failing

The warrior genes were killed off in the 20th century

The future is east of Suez

At a college where I graduated, they could not field a collegiate team this year as the vast majority of players are from overseas. That’s crazy. The “winning at all costs” philosophy left them with no team and a bitter taste in the mouth of local players who went elsewhere to play and did very well.

They are fielding a club team at present with almost all American players. Someone who I do know that knows soccer well said that they are very good, and would have never gotten a fair shake with foreign players on the team to the numbers they are.

And our best athletes go into different sports.

Yeah, the best, Jerry! The best!

Soccer has many of the elements needed to make a great sport, but some of the attributes you describe are what makes it exceedingly dull.

Just one example ...

You are 100% correct when you point out the superb physical condition that is needed to play continuously for two halves of 45-50 minutes apiece. So what? It takes even more conditioning to run a marathon, but that doesn’t mean long-distance running is a popular spectator sport.

My biggest complaint about soccer is that it seems to have been frozen in time at a point in human history when an hourglass was used to track time and an air-filled rubber ball was the most advanced invention in human civilization.

You write: “Soccer is the top sport across Europe, which dominates the sport internationally. England, France, Germany, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Belgium, the Netherlands, etc. are not third world dumps.”
But most of their teams are dominated by players from the Third World.

Most popular sport in the world, by far. More children in the US playing soccer than all other sports combined. Sucks for you...

Good! They were just going to kneel during the national anthem anyway.

Not sure if the Tokyo games will go on this year or not but if they do expect medal winners to kneel at medal ceremonies and other crap that will I predict kill whatever interest still remains. I pretty much stopped caring about the Olympics 10 to 20 years ago. I watched nothing of the last few games where as there was a time it was must see stuff.

Think about what you’re saying there. Soccer has been the top participation sport among American kids for years ... and yet by every measure it still struggles as a second-tier sport among adults.

The reason for this seems obvious to me: It’s a sport for CHILDREN.

Long term sports dying in general is a bad thing for us.

“ The United States are “absolutely devastated” at missing out on qualification for the Olympic men’s soccer tournament ”

As long as they meet the goals for diversity and inclusion, what difference does it make?

Third worlders in baseball is due to the fact that Pro teams can exploit them from youth in their home countries. They don’t even go to school at all, rather just raised to play baseball in organized baseball schools run (paid for) by MLB.

European Soccer Leagues are full of players from Africa for that same reason.

Don’t worry, you’ll get your wish. The more America declines, the more prevalent the sport of the third world, Soccer, will become.

Just because some wealthy nations embrace soccer, does not negate the 3rd world status of the sport. North Korea, Zimbabwe, Venezuela, Bulgaria and on and on, have a national soccer team. It is embraced by the poorest people because it is the cheapest sport to play. It doesn’t require any gear beyond a ball of some sort.

Wealth has been America’s advantage on athletics, offering options to people. Europe continues with Soccer from tradition and also from the same way they despise everything about the USA, they typically shun American sports, and celebrate Soccer even more because real Americans disregard it.

It’s funny they say that soccer is a global sport, but the five most populous countries in the world: China, India, Indonesia, Pakistan and the US all suck at it. And of the ten most populous countries, only Brazil has won a World Cup.
