Defeat in the semi-finals of the CONCACAF Olympic qualifying tournament means the United States will miss a third successive Games, with their last appearance coming in Beijing.

Hard for me to miss a sport that frequently ends up 90 minutes later with a score of 0-0 (or nil-to-nil, for you common folk) after 600 or so “changes of possessions.”

But, bigger picture, there should be no 2022 Olympics - at least not in China.
No problem. Just identify as the women’s team. They probably still wouldn’t qualify.
Pretty much the same reason our national team is unimpressive. Most of our players come through college teams, and the level of college coaching sucks. Not withstanding MLS, we have no real pro game here, and MLS at best is sort of CONCOCAF level.
In years past, before the illegal immigration invasion of the 1980’s (which hasn’t stopped), America largely ignored Soccer. Due to the general wealth of the USA, Americans enjoyed numerous other sports, all of which require a bit of money to play with equipment costs, uniforms, specialty grounds etc...
With the importing of 3rd worlders, all of which Soccer is the dominant sport of almost all other nations in the world, Soccer has gained massive inroads in America. This is regardless of whether the US Mens National Team is good or not, the fact is Soccer is continuously getting more popular here because we keep accepting more 3rd worlders into the country.
Every time you ‘soccer moms’ enter your kids into youth league soccer, you are helping transform the USA into another 3rd world dump. Congratulations.
Soccer makes watching darts or cornhole riveting entertainment by comparison. I guess it’s about as interesting as watching someone else run on the treadmill only with more flopping.
And our best athletes go into different sports.
Soccer is the top sport across Europe, which dominates the sport internationally. England, France, Germany, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Belgium, the Netherlands, etc. are not third world dumps.

OK, wait. Since when did you have to qualify for the Olympics? I guess I’ve been out of touch for a while. The Olympics, to me, stopped being about national pride when Carter boycotted in 1980. There was a slight reprieve in the Winter Olympics, but since then, meh.
No Mondos and orange slices for them!
Real football comes to mind, or rugby, orice hockey. Something for men. Our soccer players seem to be twigs compared to athletes ib thise sports.

I was a bar/sports complex yesterday for the first time in years. Where they used to have lots of racquetball courts, they've replaced them with corn hole lanes with upstairs and court side viewing as well as another room for axe throwing....(????)
They aren’t even good enough at a gay sport. They should be devastated.
