If we were to have hyperinflation, what would be a good investment? Anything?

Folks...it is becoming apparent that the Democrats are pursuing policies that are going to collapse our economy. They are also taking steps to make sure they never leave power. What is a person to do? We have the examples of Argentina and Venezuela clearly before us. Anyone have some helpful ideas? Ferfal of Argentina has a blog spot and wrote a book, but information from our situation here would be helpful.

...I’m close to Amish...

~~~
I was thinking about that previously. I don’t think the Amish would much care if we had hyper-inflation, or fell into a depression. A lot of people will be suddenly trying to figure out how to do the things that they have been doing all along.
“Total BS. Do you really think that the cashier at the mini-mart, who can’t count to 10 without using his fingers, is going to calculate the spot price of gold and then provide change when I use a $2,500 gold coin to buy a $72 bottle of water?”
Right now, if you shop around, you can get a couple of decent backpacking water filters for $72. I’ve got several stashed away for a dry day/month/year. But your point is well taken. Junk silver coins to buy the small stuff.
You got it: land.
I share the same outlook as you.
This time around, however, a guy will have to protect even his land.
How will one defend his property if the government okays the use of said property to house illegals, crooks, BLMers, you can go on down the list.
This time around we have to protect family, business, land, property and possessions, all of which would liable be seized and "utilized" for citizens less selfish, greedy, needy, and simply not treated (or pigmented) fairly for purposes of this Grand New Republic.
For the long term it is metals.
For short term it might be large link gold chains from pawn shops. And anything that the general public might want or especially need and that you can use if nothing ends up happening. It would be good for bartering. I’m thinking of things like soap, tooth paste and tooth brushes, lighters, matches, personal water filters, booze in smaller bottles, common ammo, canned meat, candles, batteries. Things like that.
Yep. The Left is already talking about “land reform” and “land justice”. So. Africa may be part of their hoped-for model.
Well located apartment buildings. People always have to live somewhere.
“Well located” includes lack of rent control laws and blue state/blue city mentality.
Why pay off your debts in preparation for hyperinflation? Wouldn’t a person want to go in-debt-to-the-max beforehand to pay it off with inflated ‘100 Trillion Dollar’ notes later on?
The value of debts decreases with inflation, hence the required rise in interest rates.
Excellent points.
Freepers have answer this question based on what part of the crisis is of most concern to them: the early part where having canned goods in the home matters, and bullets for protection, to middle times - debating best what to barter for food, water and bullets, and last the later times when financial decisions in the first part might pay off... fixed rates loans, bitcoins, large cap stocks and again bullets... because they’ll be in short supply.
Seems your thesis is correct... it’s not about stealing from others - it’s part of the ‘whole ball of wax’...
I have been maintaining for years that we need to stock up on what we can, while it’s still available, and while our money is still worth something.
Take a look at what happened in Texas. When grid went down, what did people need? That’s what you should have.
Isn’t that a bit presumptuous? Presuming people learn from other’s experiences and mistakes?
Now granted this is FR so you are mostly preaching to the choir, however there are still some frequenting FR that have a very strong normalacy bias.
I know. I am sorry. A fifteen second cloud of sanity.
It’s funny, a few years ago we had an early ice storm that devastated our power grid. We went a week without power. Parts of Maine went weeks. I took notes.
We lost power last fall for several hours. It was the night of one of the debates. We were off for about fifteen minutes. I couldn’t miss THAT!
Maybe not an “investment” to store your wealth, but I would recommend everyone find some salt on sale and get at least a few years worth for personal use (including food preservationl and maybe more for trade. Most suburban backyards could produce enough ag-product to feed a family, except for salt.
Salt is critical for survival and cannot be found but a few places.
I have always maintained that people are making a real tactical error in leaving it out of their prep supplies. It’s rarely on anyone’s list.
I save used glass spaghetti sauce jars and wash and dry them very thoroughly.
Then I use them for salt because the lid has a built in gasket to keep it hermetically sealed so it doesn’t cake up. And salt lasts forever.
And it’s cheap.
