On 26 January 2021 Flubro thread I gave some mask wearing tips that the CDC does not approve of. I have copy and pasted those below as a community service:
“1.always wear below the nose 2.if the mask police tell you to put your mask above the nose then be sure to wear a thin cloth mask 3.a double cloth mask can be turned into a thin single layer mask by cutting out a layer with scissors 4.put tiny slits in the single layer cloth mask to further enhance breathing 5.wear a cloth mask that has been washed in a washing machine over a disposable mask as these have harmful chemicals”

I would be careful about washing cloth masks. Certainly they should be washed before wearing the first time, but washing too much loosens the fibers, which can be breathed into the lungs.
Best to hang them places where they get sun or use one of those ultraviolet things used to clean cell phones.

Too low. Or perhaps you are only showing the numbers for Iowa. That is very misleading. This thing is serious. I think trillions are dead. The real Kozak will call you a COVID denier.
Perhaps you are right about the loose fibers...but I make a point to not breathe through the mask. I breathe exclusively through the nose, which I leave fully exposed at the top of the mask.
I do as well, bet you still risk breathing the fibers from the top part of the mask that is near the nose.

I make masks.
Get masks made of T-shirt material that have minimal flaps or “puffiness” to them. Get iron-on letters at a craft store. Get the blockiest, non fanciest type letters possible— it is easier to make an L into a T, an M into an N, etc.
These iron-ons are easy to work with and make decent masks.

Trust me on the letters. I’ve tried other methods, such as fabric paint.
The sharpie can work on the disposable masks and has the benefit of being easily replicated by anyone who sees this mask on you—they can easily figure out how you did it and make their own.
But then you run the risk of breathing in all the chemicals from the mask and encouraging other people to do the same.
