One of the most impressive things to me at the Grand Canyon in Arizona is that there’s no fences, or barriers, or whatever.
Any idiot can just go over to the edge and fall 3000 feet if they want to.

What I really hate about these idiots and their idiot ‘selfies’ that turn fatal - the government will close off the area so “no one else suffers the same fate” - fate that was self-created.

My husband and I were at the Blue Mountains in Australia. We saw an entire Japanese family with small children climb over a low barrier and stand right at the edge in gusting winds to get their family selfie without overhanging trees getting in the way.
My husband and I were so disturbed by their actions that we had to leave. I don't guess any of them fell to their deaths because there was nothing mentioned about it on the news that night or the next day.
I can't help but remember a quote from John Boy and Billy's morning radio show when they were discussing how those heat shields that you put over your windshield to keep out the sun from your car have the warning "Remove before Driving." John Boy commented that there should not be warnings of any kind because "When stupid people do stupid things, that's nature's way of getting rid of stupid people."

Been to some "perfect selfie" spots at the New River Gorge in West Virginia recently. The backflips my stomach did made me realize I'm getting old. Every instinct told me to get down on all fours and crawl back to safety. I don't think I got within 20 feet of the edge ultimately.
Certainly scaling a safety rail is a dumb move. But I can only imagine how horribly guilty her husband will probably feel for the rest of his life. And the trauma and guilt that will forever be with her kids.
May God comfort them and help them find peace.

Don’t tempt Fate with low-hanging fruit!
• Don’t go past the safety barriers
• Dont cross the flooded low-water crossing
• Don’t get within the length of the alligator
• GPS assists you, not the other way around
• If someone has to hold your beer, don’t do it
• If it has young, don’t go near them
• Last, but not least...

This is not the first time that this has happened.
Whoever said that they felt like getting on their hands and feet to crawl away from a great height...I know what you mean.
In Chicago, a few times I had to go to the top of the Sears Tower. It is so high, you have to change elevators.
All I could think about was the distance between the elevator and the ground. My stomach was flipping all over the place.
