Irelands highest court isnt sweet on tax breaks for footlongs.
The countrys Supreme Court ruled that the starch used in Subway sandwiches is too sugary to meet the definition of bread a legal distinction that would have saved the firm some dough.
In deciding whether to give the fast-food chain a tax break for serving a staple food item, the five-judge panel ruled that the breads sugar-to-flour content is roughly five times too high to qualify, according to the Irish Independent.

I think by some definitions, Guinness could qualify as bread.

Subway might be able to appeal this to EU court. I understand that’s why Budweiser is now classified as “beer” in Germany (who cares about 500 year old purity laws?)

Its certainly one of the major food groups. A properly pulled Guinness and a shepherds pie.

This seems like some idiotic, nanny state type stuff fully consistent with the asinine policies one would expect of the Irish government. With that said, Subway’s bread is, at least in terms of taste & texture, a pretty poor excuse for bread.

With that said, Subways bread is, at least in terms of taste & texture, a pretty poor excuse for bread. And what they put between the bread is awful too

Why can’t they call it, ‘I Can’t Believe It’s Not Bear?’

Yep.... A few slices daily keeps you sane. I measure mine by the yard....

Haven’t touched Guinness since their boycott attacks on the St. Patrick’s Day Parade on behalf of the gaystapo. Haven’t bothered with Murphy’s or Beamish either for the same reason.
AFAICS, the only Irish stout that I can avail of that didn’t go political (i.e. that I can get in the USA) is O’Hara’s, a new brand brewed in Carlow.

I find the buns too soft as a result of too much yeast for the flour used. I am sure the sugar content in the dough causes the yeast to be activated more and create a more sponge effect. It reduces the amount of flour used for the buns. I can chew through a Subway sandwich twice as fast as I do with a traditional hoagy bun. Some people like that, but nothing beats a traditional hoagy bun.

That's the cover story.
They're really worried about how Subway food transforms men into sex offenders.

And what they put between the bread is awful too But on the bright side, they don't put much in there, other than shredded lettuce. If you doubled it, it would still be less than other sub shops. Of course, you can go to a Jewish Deli and a sandwich is good for at least 2 meals. Maybe 3. You just need a few extra slices of bread.

Sugar is the reason why Americans are obese.
It’s a bigger drug than meth, coke, opiods...

American bread sucks in general. Too processed.

I was lucky enough to grow up with a family run Deli/Sandwich shop that sliced your deli meat to order, fresh veges, and bought their bread from another small local bakery daily. I have a hard time going into any chain sandwich shop after being that spoiled.

I am not a Budweiser drinker, but do note the U.S. beers go down several more levels.
Are you beneath Black Label, Old Milwaukee, Rheingold, Red White & Blue, Blatz? Below those there has been Beak Beer and Koch's Holiday Ale.
I drink 805 these days myself, but there was a time where I'd happily purchase and drink the $1.79/six pack Tuborg, or the $1.49/6 Rheingold. Friends drank Milwaukee's Best. Sometimes I'd shell out for Colt 45 because it was more alcohol per dollar, and because Billy Dee Williams implied certain promises that never came to fruition.

Same. Unfortunately InBev and Miller-Coors-Molson-whatever jumped on the bandwagon with rainbow billboards. It is like a neutron bomb hit the beer industry.
