They should give him liquid morphine or other pain reliever to help with the pain.
I would expect that if the prostate were the issue, then the pressure/pain is from that, which would be why women get relief and men don’t.
Just my guess.
having went through in-house hospice with a relative, there’s no need for him to suffer. Tell them to give him relief or you want another doctor/facility. No need for the pain.
when they run that tube up your junk...it’s the most miserable experience imaginable. All you think about it that tube in your junk, and it ADD to whatever pain you were feeling.
Often there is a sensation of needing to urinate when there is a catheter — this is normal
It sounds like he is having bladder spasm. Ask the physician if a B&O suppository would help — this specifically is the treatment of bladder spasm. However, beware, you will get a lot of advice including mine — consider carefully that you have asked a health question on an internet where qualifications cannot be assured.
An enlarged prostate (very normal with age) pressing against the bladder will reduce bladder capacity and cause him to urinate more often. Pain could be due to a urinary tract infection. Not sure about the blood in the urine. Is he getting any imaging done ?
Catheters can make the bladder of both men and women spasm, so there is a sense of having to pee very badly even though the bladder is empty. Perhaps some antispasmodics can be administered?
Tell them he needs pain meds. One of the problems with this opioid crisis is that people with a legitimate need for pain relief get denied it. So you may have to be proactive and keep after the docs to get him the pain relief he needs.
Pain or discomfort? Pain/discomfort usually goes away if it’s just the catheter. There will be a need to void a lot though.
Consult a doctor.

I feel the need to urinate constantly after getting the tube up my yahoo. Blood in urine, cant see it but it is there.
Might be a kidney stone which the cauterization will do little or nothing to relieve.
They should be giving him pain killers in rather large doses.
Might be a UTI? Sounds like it.
Age of father?? You said they found blood in urine. Finding a few blood cells in a urine specimen is not that unusual.. seeing blood in urine with naked eye is unusual and often associated with passing a kidney stone. An enlarged prostate can cause a real feeling of needing to pee. Did they do a PSA blood test and a MRI or a rectal exam to determine the size of the prostate.
Same symptoms, stay hydrated, I passed 2 small kidney stones, due to dehydration,
Why dont you believe the doctors and nurses
Quit trying to second guess

Had one of those one time...Gave them the option of taking it out or I would, but it was definitely leaving my body...They took it out...
Immediately, this sounds like an enlarged prostate that has prevented him from fully emptying his bladder in a timely fashion. It may have caused some kidney issues.
There are surgical options, if this is the case. There is also an option that does not require surgery that I would favor, if I had a serious problem:
I hope this helps your situation. May your father improve quickly.
