An enlarged prostate (very normal with age) pressing against the bladder will reduce bladder capacity and cause him to urinate more often. Pain could be due to a urinary tract infection. Not sure about the blood in the urine. Is he getting any imaging done ?

had a sonogram and maybe an MRI (not sure on the MRI). They are waiting results of the cultures they took.

Blood in the urine is common with bladder infections.
