Tell them he needs pain meds. One of the problems with this “opioid crisis” is that people with a legitimate need for pain relief get denied it. So you may have to be proactive and keep after the docs to get him the pain relief he needs.

I’ve been dealing with that idiocy (personally). Fortunately, I saw an endodontist today who was reasonable and - based on what he saw - said I must have a very high pain tolerance. It wasn’t by choice!
