A 41-year-old woman died after hiking in extreme heat in the Santa Monica Mountains on Saturday with temperatures above 110 degrees.
The woman was hiking with a friend and began to feel sick, so the pair turned around and headed back toward the car, according to preliminary reports from the LA County Sheriff's Department. Her friend called paramedics after the woman collapsed.
Paramedics with the Los Angeles County Fire Department arrived on the scene where they conducted CPR on the woman for about 20 or 30 minutes, said Arteaga, but were unable to revive her.

Uh...no comment.
heat stroke
Ive seen worse. Here in town we have a massive mountain next door. People are rescued about once a week even in the summer, idiots constantly try to hike it in flip flops. Theres bad judgement per above and pure idiocy. Flip flops are pure idiocy.
Probably Covid related...was she in Sturgis?
same here...geez...
I had heat stroke as a kid, I can feel the signs coming on, and then I’m done for the day. Then, I feel it for days after.
Trump’s fault!
What is ironic is hiking is supposed to be for your good health.
How anyone cannot get the problem with hiking when there is extreme heat going on is beyond me.
In heat like that your perspiration evaporates instantly so you don’t know you are losing hydration. One minute you feel fine the next you’re out like a light on the ground.
Saw a fair amount of it during two sessions of desert warfare training in 29 Palms.
WTF..are you talking about?
Folks, water is not hydration.
I do extreme sports.
If you exercise in demanding, let alone extreme conditions, you must have electrolytes and nutrition to compliment water. Otherwise the water you drink just flushes out your bodies nutrients
I used to do a lot of hiking and backpacking when I was younger (I still enjoy it today, and I’ll be 70 on my next birthday). The number one rule of such activities is HYDRATION, HYDRATION, and HYDRATION!
throw her companion in jail just for the pure stupidity of it all.
On her death certificate: corona virus
But they were from Michigan, so their hubris made perfect sense to me.
I also practice hydrogenization. So I bring a lot of fatty snacks.
How long was she in the sun? Didn’t she carry bottled water with her?
I actually over-hydrated once after a hot weather run and ended up in the ER and then the hospital overnight with an IV electrolyte drip in my arm.
Large quantities of plain water flood your kidneys and wash out your body salts. Youll end up vomiting and getting even more dehydrated plus your blood chemistry will be totally messed up. People die from this.
