This is terrible and senseless. I dont know the specifics but very bad judgement here.
Ive seen worse. Here in town we have a massive mountain next door. People are rescued about once a week even in the summer, idiots constantly try to hike it in flip flops. Theres bad judgement per above and pure idiocy. Flip flops are pure idiocy.

I had heat stroke as a kid, I can feel the signs coming on, and then I’m done for the day. Then, I feel it for days after.

What is ironic is hiking is supposed to be for your good health.
How anyone cannot get the problem with hiking when there is extreme heat going on is beyond me.

In heat like that your perspiration evaporates instantly so you don’t know you are losing hydration. One minute you feel fine the next you’re out like a light on the ground.
Saw a fair amount of it during two sessions of desert warfare training in 29 Palms.

Folks, water is not hydration.
I do extreme sports.
If you exercise in demanding, let alone extreme conditions, you must have electrolytes and nutrition to compliment water. Otherwise the water you drink just flushes out your bodies nutrients

I used to do a lot of hiking and backpacking when I was younger (I still enjoy it today, and I’ll be 70 on my next birthday). The number one rule of such activities is HYDRATION, HYDRATION, and HYDRATION!

How long was she in the sun? Didn’t she carry bottled water with her?
To: nickcarraway
No mention of her underlying conditions or if she was hydrating properly, or in hiking shape...drunk...on thc..etc. Sad and avoidable.

I see a lot of people on here saying hydration.
The thing is when there is extreme heat going on you do NOT HAVE TO GO HIKING!
For heavens sakes, its not necessary to go hiking in extreme heat. That is just plain stupid! Wait until the heat is over.

It’s not just about Gatorade or pickle juice. There is a series of events where you stop perspiring - you simply stop getting rid of excess heat. The body essentially shits down and you end up cooking. This is the heat stroke seen from time to time on football practice fields. The only real hope is early recognition and aggressive core temp cooling.

How much did she weigh? I've hiked around Las Vegas in high temperatures. If you are hydrated and in shape, no problem.
