Distant cosmic objects such as planets, galaxies, and nebulae are sometimes referred to by the scientific community with unofficial nicknames. As the scientific community works to identify and address systemic discrimination and inequality in all aspects of the field, it has become clear that certain cosmic nicknames are not only insensitive, but can be actively harmful. NASA is examining its use of unofficial terminology for cosmic objects as part of its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
As an initial step, NASA will no longer refer to planetary nebula NGC 2392, the glowing remains of a Sun-like star that is blowing off its outer layers at the end of its life, as the Eskimo Nebula. Eskimo is widely viewed as a colonial term with a racist history, imposed on the indigenous people of Arctic regions. Most official documents have moved away from its use...

This can’t be real :)
When Trump wins again, he needs to have a special press conference solely to tell Americans to stop being INSANE about this nonsense.
I’m joking...but I would love for him to shoot off some tweets about it. Probably would get deleted by twitter.
We are going down a VERY BAD road, my FRiends.
such as Barnard 33, whose nickname “the Horsehead Nebula” ...

And the galaxy they were going to call “niggaplease?” Forgetit.
Everything must be named after genitalia from a gay perspective. Only then will they be happy.

This is indicative of a serious mental problem. It’s very bad when it leads a person to erase names and topple statues.
Anybody who does that needs to have their head examined.
When those idiots attempt to rename Halleys comet, pull their funding!!
The solution is to name everything after white people. We don’t mind. I have Ulster Scot ancestry and I think I can speak for all of us in saying that we would be proud to have an Ulster Scot Nebula. Same for the sports teams. The Washington Ulster Scots. Sounds good. There are plenty of white people names to go around. You could have the Atlanta Walloons, the Cleveland Moravians, etc.
What about black holes?
You might be on to something there. If they refuse to be honored by being named by sports teams, name the teams after European groups, including various tribes and ethnicities of old Europe: the Franks, the Saxons, the Vandals (double meaning there), the Sorbians, the Etruscans, etc. You could have some cool outfits too.
After reading the first paragraph I looked to see if it was a satire site.
It’s getting harder and harder to tell, isn’t it?
It appears this mental illness has no end.
