The federal government has denied Gov. Tim Walz's request for aid to help rebuild and repair Twin Cities structures that were damaged in the unrest following George Floyd's death.
Walz asked President Donald Trump to declare a "major disaster" for the state of Minnesota in his request to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) on July 2. More than 1,500 buildings were damaged by fires, looting and vandalism in the days of unrest that followed Floyd's May 25 death in Minneapolis police custody, racking up more than $500 million in damages, according to Walz.
The governor's spokesman, Teddy Tschann, confirmed late Friday that the request for federal aid was denied.
"The Governor is disappointed that the federal government declined his request for financial support," Tschann said in a statement. "As we navigate one of the most difficult periods in our state's history, we look for support from our federal government to help us through."
Many small businesses and grocery stores, pharmacies and post offices were damaged during the unrest. In his letter to FEMA, Walz said what happened in the Twin Cities after Floyd's death was the second most destructive incident of civil unrest in U.S. history, after the 1992 riots in Los Angeles.

I am so glad that President Trump said no to sending federal disaster money.
“Make it a sanctuary City and give everyone one acre”
You forgot the mule. The governor and his gang get mules, too.
How do you see this playing in your hometown and state?
Elections and Riots have consequences
Do you ever wish you could have a do-over, Governor? Do you wish you didn’t know now what you didn’t know then...Governor..?
LOL & KMA...Governor..
The feds offered to help you avert this disaster, but you refused. So don’t come crying with your hand out now.
I agree with the posts above that Trump should compile a list of the small proprietors hurt. As soon as he wins in November, release some funds to those individuals.
Sadly, Walz assumed office in January 2019, so he wont be up for re-election until 2022. Plenty of time to hammer the blame over and over all on Trump.
Typical leftists- We destroy, you pay. Why can’t the looters return to what they destroyed and fix it themselves? Why should people who had nothing to do with this have to pay for it?
You broke it-—YOU OWN IT.
Absolutely of course.give a man a fish and.......
Just raise everyone’s taxes....a lot, easy-peasy.
In a just world...
DNC will exhaust all their money trying to unseat our President. But BLM is flush with $millions, if not $billions, from the corporations and guilty libs.
The only problem with the scenario of them bankrolling the rebuilding, aside from the fact that they wont, is that it would be like Hamas or the musslim brotherhood, where they go into the various middle east countries to donate and do charity, but which is actually about buying influence and, eventually, total control.
Don’t be so sure, he barely lost MN in 2016, and his support is growing fast here.
Hell no. Minnesota politicians including Walz caused this. They are the ones who ordered the cops to just give up their precinct building. They are the ones who pulled all police back and let the “peaceful protestors” go ahead and “express themselves” for days. Walz haughtily refused President Trump’s offer of federal military and police assistance to regain control over the streets of Minneapolis.
YOU broke it Walz. YOU pay for it.
It would be SWEET to rub the Left’s nose in a Minnesota victory for Trump.
Talk to your governor and next time, put a stop to it.
You and the governor decided to let it go.
You should pay the damages out of your own pocket.
Because you know that otherwise not a cent of it will go where it's needed. It will be skimmed off and pocketed by the same corrupt politicians who encouraged the whole mess.
You had your police stand down.
You actively supported the rioting and the looting.

Your daughter may or may not have been in the mix getting info and relaying it to some of the rioters.
Maybe.
If you are talking about the woman in the wheel chair, who was crying because they burned down her grocery store, she moved with a family member. She is about 75 miles out of the city. They showed her on the news and she looked like a different person. She said she didn’t miss the gun shots and drug dealers.
She is happy to be out of that sh.i.t hole.
