Europes preeminent particle-physics organization will need global help to fund the project, which is expected to cost at least 21 billion and would be a follow-up to the labs famed Large Hadron Collider. The new machine would collide electrons with their antimatter partners, positrons, by the middle of the century. The designto be built in an underground tunnel near CERNs location in Geneva, Switzerlandwill enable physicists to study the properties of the Higgs boson and, later, to host an even more powerful machine that will collide protons well into the second half of the century.
The approval is not yet a final go-ahead. But it means CERN can now put substantial effort into designing a collider and researching its feasibility, while pushing to the backburner research and development efforts for alternative designs for LHC follow-ups, such as a linear eletron-positron collider or one that would accelerate muons.
The decision comes in a document approved today, called European Strategy for Particle Physics Update. It outlines on two stages of development. First, CERN would build an electron-positron collider with collision energies tuned to maximize the production of Higgs bosons and understand their properties in detail.
Later in the century, the first machine would be dismantled and replaced by a proton-proton smasher. That would reach collision energies of 100 teraelectronvolts (TeV), compared with the 16 TeV of the LHC, which also collides protons and is currently the most powerful accelerator in the world. Its goal would be to search for new particles or forces of nature and to extend or replace the current standard model of particle physics. Much of the technology that the final machine will require has yet to be developed, and will be the subject of intensive study in coming decades.

I think God IS everything, everywhere, at once.
Everything? Maybe. I think there is a difference between creation and creator, however. Can a person understand Picasso by studying his paintings? Not really. And doesn’t the Bible warn against worshipping nature instead of the God of nature? The Greeks and Romans had a whole pantheon of false gods, each representing different aspects of nature.
Why do you believe there’s a ‘difference’ between creation and creator? We’re not talking about humans, here - THEY didn’t create the Universe.
GOD created it all ‘ex nihilo’. What else could he have made if from, but Himself?
There’s a difference between ‘worshipping nature’ and realizing that nothing exists or has LIFE within it, except that it is made of God, and is enlivened by God.
My beliefs about the ultimately spiritual basis of all Life in the universe have nothing political about them at all. I don’t worship ‘Gaia’. I worship a creator God, without whose eternal breathing of Life into all of creation, there would be no life anywhere.
The only reason we exist is because God felt the desire to express Himself. We’re God, pushed-out into the material Universe, which, in turn, was created for our occupancy.
He didn’t just ‘make’ you, and leave you here to survive according to some mechanistic ‘laws’. He’s living inside of you and all of us, and is the only real *life* that we have.
I know that doesn’t go along with many traditional religious beliefs; but if you think about it for a while, it usually can be fitted-in.
Of course, this won’t work if you believe that God is an angry, vengeful God, ready to send you to ‘Hell’ for eternity if you do certain things - or fail to do others - and violate His code. Or if you think he’s some sort of Emperor who makes no allowance for all of the weird exigencies He has put us into Himself!
(I watched a video today where Della Reese was talking about her reasons for leaving the traditional Christian church in which she was raised. She said she was tired of being told that she was a sinner and a ‘wretch’. She realized that the Bible told her that she was ‘made in the image of God’ - and if she was a wretch, God must be one, too....and she went looking for another path.)
I think it’s kind of a copout, to expect that we’re ‘saved by Christ’.
I’ve never been a fan of the notion of ‘vicarious atonement’ - I think it’s too easy, and lazy (and I am aware that this, also, will probably offend many here.)
It doesn’t take just ‘repentance’, to get your life in order. Sometimes, that just makes you feel like you’ve ‘paid your dues’, and now you’re OK.
It requires inner WORK, to really change ourselves and the circumstances of our lives.
Jesus - and just saying ‘I Believe’ - can never do that. You’re just floating on a cloud, then. There’s a certain substance that is missing there, and that’s probably why the churches are failing, and people are leaving them.
We have to change the way that we THINK and believe- and that requires far more than just mouthing the acknowledgement that we may have ‘done wrong’ here and there, and ‘accepting Christ as our Savior’. That apology and declaration doesn’t show you any way OUT - and laying it all on Jesus is just another copout.
I don’t believe that very many of us are really ‘sinners’. I think most of us are just stuck in *situations*; and just as our educational system has failed us in recent decades, our religions have become moribund and are no longer giving us the inspiration that we need for the times and situations within which we are living.
(Putting on my ‘flame suit’ now...)
Hehe.
Just to clarify a bit, the guy who wrote “The Higgs Fake” was written by an actual scientist who has worked in that field. He’s not like one of these 9-11-truther schmucks that “proves” that the WTC buildings were imploded with explosives but has a degree as a physics tech that hasn’t spent a day working as a structural engineer. I would encourage anybody to take a look at the book and apply critical thinking.
I would wager a guess that satanists would have a vested interest in tightly controlling any information pertaining to that one irreducible conclusion.
Dont worry I got this.
Almost done with a bigger one and its only cost me $159.50.
I used household appliance parts, a staple gun and glue.
Nice!
Of course not.
I’m referring to the literal satanic rituals they have at the place.
Misunderstanding is one of the great enemies of mankind.
I was talking about actual satanic rituals.
By the way, how could either of you have jumped ahead of the rest of those “trying to understand the material universe” and reached the “one irreducible conclusion” before its time?
When you grasp the thing still in its pre-nascent state in order to forego proper development, what does that say about your viewpoint?
I don’t know anything about those. In fact, I don’t believe in ‘Satan’, and think ‘Satanic Rituals’ must be like kids playing dress-up.
The concept of the one irreducible conclusion has been with us since ancient times. We’re just beginning to find evidence of it via current scientific paradigms.
(I don’t think the World really changes much, on the highest level of human understanding. We just find new ways of viewing and expressing the old things.)
But why are you holding this concept out to me like a carrot?
It’s just something I’ve noticed recently, and this thread was a good place to post it.
(I don’t usually pay attention to who may have posted a particular thread or comment. There are hundreds of people here on any given day.)
It’s the old things that bring our downfall. Cern has confused themselves.
Better to engage the lowest level of human understanding.
You’re not making any sense.
(Jesus, and his ideas, are pretty ‘old’, now. And he was raised a Jew, and influenced by concepts that far predated even his own time.)
I knew that’s what you were driving at.
Meanwhile, your first post says that “trying to understand the material universe” will “eventually lead us to one irreducible conclusion.”
So as I already asked in post # 73, how is it you already know this conclusion?
