Just a couple of days ago, NASA helped spot a new batch of sunspots and the flares arcing above them. In a new blog post, NASA explains that the flares werent particularly powerful and didnt register with NOAAs Space Weather Prediction Center, but NASAs own hardware was able to detect them. The space agency suggests that the sunspots and flares could be an indication that the star is becoming more active yet again.
The Sun typically runs on cycles that last around 11 years on average. During times of high activity, called the solar maximum, sunspots and flares are frequent. Its during these times that Earth is at the greatest risk of being impacted by a coronal mass ejection, which is what happens when the Sun spews charged particles out into space at incredibly high speeds. If Earth is in the wrong place at the wrong time, that kind of space weather can hinder communications and cause problems with orbiting spacecraft.
The solar minimum, by contrast, is a period of time when the Sun is fairly quiet. Researchers believe were in the midst of a solar minimum right now, so the sighting of new sunspots and flares might seem odd, but as Spaceweather reports, the newly-identified features disappeared so rapidly that observers didnt even have time to catalog them, suggesting the solar minimum is still in full swing.
However, the fact that the sunspots popped up at all suggests that we may be slowly leaving the solar minimum and returning to a period of more intense solar activity. Calculating the end of a solar minimum is actually a bit more tricky than you might assume.

2020 man...a CME would be the cherry on top.
“If Earth is in the wrong place at the wrong time,”
How about the wrong place at the right time?
Well here comes some more globull warming again. Thank GOD. My tomato plants can use it. Here in the Rockies the frost pisses me off.
I been in the right place but it must have been the wrong time
I’d have said the right thing but I must have used the wrong line
I been in the right trip but I must have used the wrong car
My head was in a bad place and I’m wondering what it’s good for
I been in the right place but it must have been the wrong time
My head was in a bad place but I’m having such a good time
I been running trying to get hung up in my mind
Got to give myself a good talking-to this time
Just need a little brain salad surgery
Got to cure my insecurity
I, for one, welcome global warming.
A repeat of the Maunder Minimum is NOT on my dashboard for my end days.
For the first time in my life, the Fireflies are NOT here.
Without fail, they show up on June 1st, like clockwork.
Three days later, none.
Anywhere.
It’s been really cold.
Get down! Shake it! Boom Chicka Boom! Bwaaahaaaaa.
Here comes the sun, and I say
It's all right
Little darling, it's been a long cold lonely winter
Little darling, it feels like years since it's been here
I’ll take a cool, mild summer here in Alabama. Followed by a frosty Thanksgiving. It’s the beginning of June, and I can remember a few scorching hot Junes in recent memory, but it isn’t forecast to get beyond the mid 80’s for the next ten days, and my tomatoes and peppers are loving it. I plan on getting some Burpee hybrid patio sweet corn and baby summer sqaush going this weekend. And I got two grapevines that need planted and two Northland blueberry bushes inbound on a truck to fill in my booberry patch. *chuckle* My wife keeps snatching all the ripe berries and so does everyone else. I gotta run everyone off with a rake to get a handful, myself. LOL
Well, good thing I got my YouTube education on how to fix my trucks air conditioning.
Next up: drum brakes!
Im a minimally educated arsehole. I calculate my solar minimum and maximum by how my garden grows, how much I have to worry about my elk getting cooled out after I shoot it, and whether the water and heat bills get high. Im a simple man that just pays my bills and feeds myself. But I do like some Rock & Roll.
This article is politically motivated.
Solar minimums and below average numbers of sunspots are empirically linked to cooler temperatures.
I recently read that sunspots are at their lowest level in more than a century.
As I recall, NASA was claiming several months ago that the Solar minimum had ended - based on one spot that was discovered in the correct solar hemisphere.
Whoops!
Today, I get the impression that NASA is trying to assuage the fears of environmentalists by claiming that the new sunspots are really there, but they are just too small to be seen by the official instrument that is supposed to count them!
They're wearing masks. Solar corona virus.
Due to the alignment of the earth’s magnetic and geographic axis, the magnetosphere is weak and our protection from a CME is minimal.
We are entering a perfect storm, i.e. reverse polarity CME while we are vulnerable.
Just a few days ago, I read that a massive AI analysis of deep earthquake data revealed the best evidence yet that Earth’s magnetic field is being generated at the interface between the Earth’s molten outer core and the solid inner core.
The basic theory is that the solid inner core is actually rotating in place.
The excitement about the study is that many of the researchers felt it was the best evidence yet that inner core rotation is actually happening.
Our Sun is incredibly important to our survival.
Flows from the keyboard and falls off the page like lead.
Antifa on the sun too???? Watch out for looters stealing the heat. We may all freeze!!!
The incomparable Dr. John
We are about to go through a transition stage.
It gets a little bumpy.
