Corona Virus Daily Thread #51 COVID-19 5/07/2020
Twitter...
“Imagine introducing the person youre seriously dating to your parents for the first time as the reason why you contracted COVID-19.”
LMAO! life goes on...
“Working from home is here to stay, even when the economy reopens”
-see https://www.cnbc.com/2020/05/11/work-from-home-is-here-to-stay-after-coronavirus.html
This pandemic has forced a lot of innovation on businesses that never risked innovating before.
Still a shame of course.
Who gets a flu shot in their nose?
Indiana More than 500 COVID-19 cases, 32 additional deaths
In Indiana, there are currently 24,627 cases of COVID-19 and 1,411 deaths related to the virus.
“Vietnam charters flight to evacuate 340 citizens from America, ‘the world’s Covid-19 epicenter’. “The first time since the end of the Vietnam War that a Vietnamese carrier had operated a direct flight to and from the US” https://ampe.vnexpress.net/news/news/vietnam-brings-340-citizens-home-from-us-4096523.html ”
Wow! Can’t blame them though.
Also interesting:
” A representative of the airport said this was the first time since the end of the Vietnam War that a Vietnamese carrier had operated a direct flight to and from the U.S.”
Re: 503 - Yeah, that’s for sure. Some will make and some won’t. It will take awhile to assess the economic effects. In the short-time, I think it’s going to be difficult for many businesses.
I also think that Congress is going to be careful in what they provide for additional aid/relief. I think it’s 50/50 for an extension beyond July of the $600/week federal unemployment assistance. Or if it is provided, there will be some additional eligibility requirements, etc.

“Still:
* Most tests in a day
* Lowest positive test rate in a day
* Fewest deaths reported since 3/31
* Fewest cases reported since 3/26
Sort of outlierishly good and likely isn’t representative of the new normal.
However, there have been signs of progress over the past week.”
Nate has been pretty fair, considering his cray liberal audience.

From Alex Epstein, host of Power Hour. In a bonus episode of Power Hour I interview one of my favorite COVID commentators, economist Daniil Gorbatenko, about the overwhelming evidence that the lockdown mantra safer inside is wrong.
Being inside increases our risk of a dangerous infection from COVID-19 by a) exposing millions to higher doses of the virus and b) decreasing immunity.
Being outside by contrast, exposes us to lower doses of the virus and increases our immunity.
So not only are the lockdowns catastrophically destructive to every aspect of life besides COVID-19, they also make many and likely most Americans more vulnerable to harm from COVID-19 itself.
IIRC, it said innoculation in the nasal cavity!
dont know the veracity and I cannot watch it

This woman is 55. She was denied oxygen because it was determined she didn’t need it. Her daughter pleeded for oxygen or sedation m
Bur was denied. This is happening right now in Sweden to thousands of the week and elderly behind locked doors where it is forbidden to visit. In that way this footage is unique. Nobody is there to see or show whats going on. We are pleading for outside help. Swedish media is silencing this. This is the big senicide in Sweden 2020. The culling of the week. In herd immunity strategy.
Yeah, there’s a choice between paying people to not work, and paying people who still can’t work.
Interesting thing:
Service industries’ losses will not be made up by the market- those sales are lost.
Manufacturing sales will be made up by the market- pent up demand when reopens.
Will be looking to see how that’s factored in future bill.
Goodness!
Yes, one doubts the veracity.
if there are any hemotologists lurking..there was a webinar from 3 world experts on thalassemia, SCD and COVID-19
a brief write up was done on the webinar
this is the webinar
and there are a lot of slides

OH, gotcha.
Yeah, the meat plant workers around these parts, illegals and locals are usually 20’s and 30’s.
So why are they working, according to the numbers? They’re working so well here in NYC, the worst-hit place in the country, that flubros are saying “See? We overreacted. We didn’t need all that caution, the numbers are down.”
Logic from the insane asylum.
Sweden is speeding up the ‘desired’ demographic replacement.
The virus is the excuse they’ve been waiting for to get rid of older native Swedes.
By older, meaning 60yrs_+. If you’re 60 and a cancer survivor with high blood pressure? No care for you if you get CV. Good luck and may the odds be ever in your favor!
This is why their hospitals aren’t overflowing.
And they preferentially give hospital beds to illegal immigrants in lieu of giving them to Swedes.
So I skimmed this webinar ...here is what is striking
In Italy there are registered 5500 transfusion dependent Thalassemia patients and 1500 Non Transfusion dependendent
It seems like it should be the opposite. It seems Transfusion dependent should be rarer.
The ones that got hit with COvid-19- 1 Non Transfusion and either 10 or 11 transfusion dependent.
They dont understand why. They think it should be more.
They theorize it is because people self isolated.
Also, hospitals are giving anticoagulant as a prevententive measure if a risk factor for thalassemia patients...couldnt understand the name of the drug.
Also said important to test for g6pd if giving Hydroxychloriquine.
They head of the Thalassemia organization needs a better set up if she does that again..you could hardly hear her and it cut out. They did answer questions.
