So I skimmed this webinar ...here is what is striking
In Italy there are registered 5500 transfusion dependent Thalassemia patients and 1500 Non Transfusion dependendent
It seems like it should be the opposite. It seems Transfusion dependent should be rarer.
The ones that got hit with COvid-19- 1 Non Transfusion and either 10 or 11 transfusion dependent.
They dont understand why. They think it should be more.
They theorize it is because people self isolated.
Also, hospitals are giving anticoagulant as a prevententive measure if a risk factor for thalassemia patients...couldnt understand the name of the drug.
Also said important to test for g6pd if giving Hydroxychloriquine.
They head of the Thalassemia organization needs a better set up if she does that again..you could hardly hear her and it cut out. They did answer questions.
