This has got to be the stupidest thing I've heard yet out of our gubermint. First paragraph, last sentence:
"However, some seniors and others who typically do not file returns will need to submit a simple tax return to receive the stimulus payment."
SERIOUSLY??? We're all locking down, seniors are the most vulnerable, and the IRS is going to send them out to file a tax return they otherwise are not required to file??? What nimrod came up with that idea?
There are people without internet.
For those who don't live in DC, this is how the place works, not 10% but like 97%.
why would you post something like that on a public forum?
Filing a claim with zero income???? This mess makes my head spin!! Can you imagine how many checks will kick back because people closed out their bank accounts or the checks that are mailed have to be returned or better yet, how many of those mailed checks will be forged and cashed?
>> “If you are 65 or older, and your gross income is less than $13,850 then you dont have to file.................”
And generally you do not have to include SS checks as income.
Does your tax software allow you to file a zero adjusted gross income return? ATX kicks them out.
No their not unless the fraud goes back 25 or 30 years. There is a SS Master Death Index and when anyone dies that name is added to list and everything is cut off, SS, Credit Cards, etc.. If you died at the end of the month and got your automatic deposit, within a few days that is clawed back out of your account, it happened when my father passed.
Not completely sure about this, but I don't believe they use the 1040-EZ forms anymore. If I'm not mistaken, you have to use a regular 1040, or use the 1040-SR for seniors. (Here's a couple links related to the seniors form.)
If someone is living of SS why would they get a check? That’s nothing more than a bonus. Same for retired people (and I’m retired) why would I get a $1200 check actually $2400 since the wife and I are both retired? We don’t work, we live off our retirements?
No. A leach is a welfare bum sponging off your taxes. One who takes and does not give back to the economy.
We need more people like my son in law who pays his own way and does not ask the gubmint for free cheese.
It’s actually always been advisable to file taxes even when you have zero income. Keeps your papertrail going which keeps you in government systems and provides a small amount of protection against ID theft. And many aid programs want to see a copy of your taxes. And you never know, with as many odd tax situations as we have, just because you have no income doesn’t mean the IRS won’t write you a check. You can pay nothing and be owed anyway.
Rham Emanuel left the playbook behind in the WH.
Trump is quarterback now.
What is a loose job?
The point of this is NOT to make up for lost income. It’s to prime the well and get people spending money.
“What else do you think the IRS, sitting at home in Mordor, is going recommend?”
After Dorkbama the Muslim eunuch quota boy pushed his felonious minions into the IRS, it was deemed too slimy for even Mordor.
With these 2 situations here (The $1200 stimulus check + the Virus threat) expect to see not only stumbling & bumbling but also sabotage from bad actors.
He’s using government services without paying taxes. The rest of us are picking up the slack. He’s a leach.
Really? Then why does the lady doing my tax return ALWAYS list it and include the SS copy in the file?
This senior does his taxes from the comfort of his home so I think your hype is a tad overdone
Once again you are very wrong. He pays sales taxes on everything he buys. He pays a gasoline tax every time he fills up. His landlord pays property taxes with the rent that he pays.
His income is so small that even if he were to have taxes withheld, he would get them all back as a refund.
